Average cost for photographer/videographer.

Buckets05, on July 17, 2017 at 5:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 54

Please help! What is a reasonable cost for a photographer? I was quoted from $1500-$2800. To me that's a lot...to others, that's reasonable. And that's not including a videographer. At this point, videos from cell phones will probably suffice, lol!!!

That is quite reasonable depending on what's in your package. Not only are you paying for the photographer to take the photos but also for the editing to ensure they look good. You are also talking about hundreds of pictures. Photos will remind you of your wedding forever.

I think it depends on where you are located and their amount of experience. That sounds like it's probably average. We decided to splurge on our photographer since photos are really the only thing you'll have after the wedding. So ours is $4000.

I think that is pretty reasonable depending on the quality of the photog and what it includes. We are paying $4100 for photog and $1500 for video. Photography was more important than video for us, but we still wanted to capture video.

That sounds reasonable to be. Quality work is going to cost you more. The photographer's we are looking at all start around 1700 and go up to 4600 depending on the package you choose. We are willing to spend more on photography and cut costs elsewhere like with no save the dates, no program, no favors, very very simple centerpieces, small cake etc. To us, the pictures we receive will be all we have to remember out day so we dont want to go with someone who may be less expensive but ultimately is less experienced and be disappointed.

That's a pretty decent price for a photographer. Most people pay a lot more!

In my area, that's on the lower end. I'm paying $7k after taxes for both photos and video

So definitely not ridiculous.... it's actually a great price. Ours will be about 3k. Maybe if you're not use to the prices it might seem shocking but you're paying for the labor, editing and printing of pictures. Ours includes an album for ourselves and our parents as well as other print outs.

"Utterly ridiculous"?? Please enlighten us. Why are those quotes utterly ridiculous? Are you aware of how much time goes into a photographer's job in order to produce hundreds of edited photos of your wedding? Your quotes are actually very reasonable and on the lower end in most locations.

    For Northwest Ohio area-

I am paying $1200 for wedding photography (this price also includes the engagement session).

I'd say average was around $1500-$2000... and there are a handful around here that are $3300+.

That's where the quotes were for my area in the Chicago suburbs.

Utterly ridiculous? Try a novice and then see how costly the results are. Photo and video are not the same thing or skill set. It sounds like you need one of those generic all in one companies with subcontractors if you don't see the value in hiring a skilled artist. At least have the decency not to expect your guests to work. My range is ****, I don't do video.

That's very reasonable. In our area it ranges from $****+. Ours is $2500 for two photographers for 8 hours. She was on the cheaper side because she is starting out, but her wedding work is gorgeous and she did our engagement shoot

We paid 2000 for the basic photography package for our wedding (we then paid to add time to said package).

We opted not to have a videographer - having videos of the whole day wasn't something we thought was important.

We are glad we splurged for an amazing photographer though!

How important is photography for you? Maybe just book a photographer for a few hours and not the whole evening.

Uttterly ridiculous? Those are very reasonable prices. '

Photo and video are highly dependent on location, your requirements, and talent. My two favorite photographers here (NJ) are ****. Neither does video. My favorite videographers are on both ends of the spectrum; one is about 3500 and the other is 6000+.

If you have no priority for these, then find a bundler and cross your fingers. Or get someone new at it and cross your fingers.

For the record, engagement shoots are nothing like weddings, which are rapid fire strings of events and people. It is easy to miss key events; those posts are here every day, along with missing photos, crappy customer service during and after and just mediocre photos.

If you don't want to spend the money for great work, don't spend it, but don't devalue others

because you don't understand what goes into their arts. I happen to think my mechanic is getting too much money too, but the fact of the matter is that it's important to me (as in, I have to be at people's weddings....) he does fabulous work and he does it at a moment's notice.

    Quality costs. Everywhere.

Yeah depends on where you live. Not doing video and wanted really nice pictures so we're paying $3500 in the Bay Area of CA for 8 hours.

Those are amazing prices. Here in Baltimore they range from $3,500 to $6,000. The only way you're getting anything cheaper is if you use a friend. Sorry but those prices are great

Mine is $2800 includes a second photographer and engagement session. I was quoted elsewhere up to 4K. Seems good price for me since pictures are very important and lots of time goes into editing.
