Avg wedding budget... per zip code

Mrs Young, on April 7, 2011 at 2:03 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 34

Thanks to another WW member for posting this... my zip code says..

www.costofwedding.com

On average, couples that live in or travel to East Lake, FL spend between $20,892 and $34,820 total for Market Summary

Holy Cannoli ! I know there's a bunch of "stuff" I would like for myself that I haven't had the money for. But we are coming in just under $2500 .. then it says..

The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 158 and 172.

I don't even know that many people (be that as it may) We have 8 people and my niece and nephew.

Is anyone else close to the avg for their zip code?

If you do the wedding cost estimator, you can enter in the number of guests and the style of your wedding to get the averages brides spent in each category for a similar wedding.

I guess I just had no idea.. I mean I KNOW they can be very expensive I guess I never thought about so many people paying that much.

Well regardless, it's our big day and we've planned it how we want it.

Let's just hope for great memories and very little to go "wrong".. (or not how we planned) !

Actually - I think I am about avg if not below.

On average, couples that live in or travel to Tybee Island, GA spend between $19,448 and $32,414 total for Market Summary

The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 124 and 138. A single guest could add between $178 and $218 to the overall cost of your wedding.

We have 50 guests and we will be at ~10k - that is including the weddingplanner, the location, stay for us and our family, well essentially including everything

The other link (http://www.costofwedding.com/index.cfm/action/costest.index) says Based on the zip code you entered for 31328 Tybee Island, GA, the number of guests (<50), and the items selected, the estimated wedding cost is between $9,131 and $15,218 for a theme wedding.

So we are smack in the middle! Man we are so average, it's almost depressing! LOL

A couple of things strike me about those figures. Most obviously, we stayed within a $10,000 budget, even though we had two receptions--the luncheon after the ceremony, and the at-home reception. That is less than half the average in any of the locations involved.

Second, our at-home reception location is not in a lower-cost area than our home. In fact, it is quite the opposite; the at-home reception location tends to be much more expensive than our home area. However, our home is in a wealthier area than our at-home reception location. So in our home area, people tend to have more money, and thus tend to have more lavish weddings (including a higher number of guests).

I'd say we're doing pretty well as our budget (and we're pretty much in line with it) is 20K and we're planning on 200 guests! I always joked with my dad that he was lukcy only to have 1 daughter. Of course I waited until he retired to get married so I'm paying for 1/2 of it myself Smiley smile

Third, I am always suspicious of this type of figure. It depends on couples willing to fill out an online survey. In any given Zip Code, there may not be that many couples participating. Thus, one extraordinarily lavish wedding can bump up the average for the whole year. In our home area, for example, the average cost this year was considerably less than the average cost last year. Even allowing for the recession, I doubt that average costs went down that much. I suspect that the people who happened to answer the questionnaire last year just happened to have had more lavish weddings than those who answered this year.

And finally, I am also astonished by the number of guests assumed. For the ceremony and luncheon, we had a dozen guests. For the at-home reception, we invited 100, got 70 RSVPs, and had 60 people there on the day. I have no idea where we would find 200 or more guests even if we wanted to and had the budget for it.
