Awkward when it comes to dancing

Meghan, on June 20, 2021 at 12:23 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
Anyone else nervous about dancing at your wedding? Not just the first dance but dancing throughout the night? I feel soooooo awkward cus I’m not “good” at dancing. My FH also never dances. The idea of also being photographed/videod is making me a bit more nervous

We are doing first dance then the parents dance and that’s it. We aren’t dancers either and I have no interest in it so we decided to have corn hole and yard games set up as well so that’s where we will be.

Just go out and have fun. Nobody is going to judge you if they are your friends and family. When you do your first dance you could you do ask your DJ or whoever is doing music to just play part of the song then ask others to join and change songs.

Agree with this. Very few are good at dancing and many need liquid courage. But once you start dancing, you don’t really care too much what people are just as awkward as you are, and no one is judging you.

We are doing the same thing, our venue has lawn games and a fire pit. We will be having a Spotify playlist going but dancing isn’t important and I don’t understand why people insist on only having it. Lot of weddings I’ve been to the dance floor has been empty.

I think there are a few things you can do:

    - If you are wanting people to dance, let your DJ know your concerns. They will play music intended to get people on the dance floor.

    - Let your photographer/videographer know! They likely have a few tricks up their sleeve. This is probably something they've helped others with as well.

    - You can try dancing together beforehand. There are a TON of dance instructors with different teaching methods (online, in-person, etc). You could watch a YouTube channel of an instructor to get a feel for what it's like.

    - At the reception, If you feel awkward being the only ones out there, invite people to join you. Sometimes people people just don't want to be the first on the dance floor or don't know when they should join.
