Baby Changing Station

Pinecohn, on July 28, 2016 at 11:11 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

We are having a family friendly wedding, but it just hit me that our bathrooms do not have changing tables. I'm estimating about 4 children that are still in diapers. Having guests go out to their cars would be very cumbersome for them as the orchard we are using as a parking lot will not be well lit when the sun starts to go down. I originally was planning on a hay bale covered really well, but my fiancé's cousin is highly allergic to hay, so we are nixing all the hay.

Do any of you have ideas on how to do a makeshift small/portable changing table that we can put in the kids area or inside one of the bathrooms? Thank you!

That's very sweet of you to think of whoever is changing babies! I'm sure most parents at one point or another run into an environment where there's no changing table. You make do.

However, if you are really close with one of the people with a baby or know someone with an old pack n play or changing mat they no longer need or will let you borrow, you could set that up for people to use somewhere semi-private.

I would ask your venue how they can accommodate.

I think asking the venue is a good idea, but I'm a mom and I've been places where there wasn't a changing station, waking to the car sucks but it's whatever, besides FH will take the walk or we will make due!

Pack and plays (play yards) have portable changing tables on them, and pop open/shut for convenience so that might be an option as well

Walking to a car, for real? Everyone I know would throw a burp cloth on the floor and do it right there.

I agree with PPs. See if someone has a pack and play they are willing to let you borrow.

Lol, I've changed my kid at a bus stop on a portable change pad, and we used cloth diapers. When you're a parent you get used to not having change tables every where. That being said, if you are wanting to provide something, I've seen at baby shows, a large table with the curved, padded pads on them to change kids.

It's very sweet of you to think of that. I would contact your venue and see what they have. Pack n plays with the padded top for changing are good. If there isn't a changing table most parents will make do, I am with the other moms on here while a changing table is really nice to have you become an expert at ad hoc changing really early

I think most parents with children in diapers can discreetly change a diaper almost anywhere!

It's really nice of you to think of, but I think nearly all parents have run into the situation where they need to change a diaper and there isn't a formal station for it. They will find a way and probably not even think twice about it.

Yes, it's nice of you to think of them, but it's over thinking.

Like the PPs said - very thoughtful, but it'll be ok!

You should really give that feedback to the venue, though!

I think asking the venue is good a idea. As a mom, when I go somewhere I pack everything I can think of, especially when going to a place I don't know. Parents will make it work! Very kind of you to think of them though!!

Thank you all for your feedback and ideas!

We decided on doing a covered and padded table next to the bathroom building to help accommodate the families that will be attending. I am gaining a stepdaughter and I am a toddler teacher, so I know how difficult it can be to tame a wiggly baby/toddler!

My biggest concern was having people get down on the gravel/dirt in dresses at our outdoor and barn venue. That's never fun and a killer on your back and knees! Smiley smile
