Baby stuff on wedding registry?

Mrs. Carmen, on January 1, 2010 at 4:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

You're supposed to ask for stuff you want/need in order to build your household together right? Well FH and I have no doubt in our minds that eventually we're going to have little ones. So is it inappropriate to put a couple baby things in the wedding registry? Like, for example, a glider chair, and a cradle bed?

I think its completely up to you just be prepared for a lot of questions if you do lol. I know if I put any baby things on everyone would drive me mad asking if I was or when we would start trying. Also dont forget you may have a baby shower where you can register for those things as well when the time comes.

Yeah I wasn't going to put a whole lot of stuff on there. And everyone in both our families are like, "When are you gonna make babies?!" anyway. lol. I'm used to it, and it doesn't bother me. hehehe...practically every time FH and I get together with his parents, his mom asks, "So are you two pregnant yet?" or, "any good news you'd like to share with us?"

I agree, if you put baby stuff on your registry you will get questions about if you are pregnant already. I say go for it if it is what you want. You will get lots of baby stuff with your baby shower but I don't see why you can't start early in getting the things you need. Word of advice from a mommy: DON'T BUY ANY CLOTHING FOR A BABY YOUNGER THAN 6/9 MOUTHS AND ASK RELATIVES AND FRIENDS FOR BABY CLOTHES IN BIGGER SIZES. Everyone will give you baby cloths made to fit a newborn (I had to have gotten over 30 outfits from my baby shower) but what most people fail to understand is that most babies will only fit in these tiny clothes for maybe a month, sometimes not even that long. Your baby will grow out of these outfits before he/she will ever get a chance to wear half of them and then you will have nothing in a bigger size for them to wear. Also, DIAPERS ARE THE BEST GIFT EVER! You will need tons of diapers (again not too many in newborn size) and unlike toys and a lot of useless stuff,

Lol. Well I'm not pregnant yet. So I wasn't going to ask for any of those things. I was thinking more along the lines of a crib and cradle and rocking chair. More furniture type stuff.

And anything baby related that you don't get from your registry and baby shower, check Craigslist and second hand stores for a lot of slightly used gear. A lot of parents don't have room to keep the baby gear around after their child outgrows it and you can usually get some gently used items really cheap. I got a slightly used oak rocking chair for $20 off of Craigslist and two ergo baby carriers for free.

Carmen, I dont know that I would put anything baby related on your wedding registry because its purpose is for people to buy gifts for the two of you. I know me personally, I wouldnt buy someone a glider for thier wedding gift. Being a mother myself I know first hand just how giving people are when it comes to baby showers. II just think its more appropriate to leave the baby items off your wedding registry as the two events are seperate. I wouldnt sell myself short of wedidng related items when I could have both. Not to mention baby styles change as do clothes, so unless you are planning to get preggers in the next few months I would definitely wait on that.

If I saw baby stuff on a wedding registry I would assume it was the couple's way of telling everyone they are pregnant. Then if I found out they are not pregnant I would think they are very very nutty! LOL It wouldn't be a big deal or anything, like I wouldn't be offended, but I would just think that the couple is nuts. So if it's really what you want then go for it, not a big deal. Just be prepared for lots of assumptions and maybe a few whispers of "WTF?!" LOL

Haha. Well we're both pretty crazy. I dunno. I added one or two things to one registry, but none to the other two. *shrug*

Well good for you...honestly the bottom line of a gift registry is to tell people what you would like most for gifts...so you have every right to actually put on there what you really want! I don't care if that's a set of dishes or a playstation! I'm not into the proper etiquette with that stuff, I just wanted to let you know what I would think as a guest. Since you're already crazy I'm sure your loved ones will just smile and say that's so YOU! LOL

@far to excited. Great advice! My girlfriend just had a baby (her 3) she got everything from a really nice second hand store...makes so much sense! The baby will grow out of half of that stuff!

    .

IMO I would not put baby stuff on the registry. Once you get preg. you will have a shower and get more than enough stuff.

My best friend just had her first baby and she has sooo much really cute stuff and she had way more clothes than what she needed...all of it came from Once Upon a Child (secondhand shop), and yardsales. We got basically the whole wardrobe for $50 and the woman who we bought it from kept it in such great shape you would never know and Halle (the baby) looks super cute every single day...I have learned from my BFF that when I start having babies we will def start at yardsales.

I wouldn't do it b/c i don't want folks thinking i'm pregnant and i don't want folks asking a million questions. b/c of my age, if/when the time comes, i will not share the news until i get past the first trimester. and i don't lie well so i wouldn't give folks any ammo.

All babies cry. It’s their way of communicating their needs. Sometimes it’s easy to work out what they want, and sometimes it isn’t. If your baby cries a lot and is difficult to soothe, it can be stressful, and this can affect your own mental and emotional health.

First of all you need to get 4Moms Mamaroo.

It is the swing which entertains baby and chances of crying are very less because it has multiple options to make a baby fall asleep and keep playing
