Babys breath boquets.

Megan, on December 5, 2016 at 7:57 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

As cliché as it is, I really want babys breath ONLY for my wedding. I hate the idea of spending a ridiculous amount of money on flowers that will just die. I think that fake babys breath looks cheap. And ive checked a few different places. I want to know how anyone has made their own.

Such as: How many stems did you need per bouquet?

How did you keep them fresh until the wedding?

Where did you find them the cheapest?

Any general advice on this type of thing?

Thanks Ladies!!

I'm almost positive that baby's breath in large amounts would smell REALLY bad, so you might want to reconsider that

I'm with Autumn, baby's breath in large amounts does stink. Why dont you try talking to a florist to see what kind of flowers are in season around your date? Or even look into buying flowers in bulk from Costco or Sams Club to add into the baby's breath so you have some variety.

I'm planning on going to Trader Joe's the day before my wedding! They have beautiful bouquets at a great price! I'm not picky, I plan to use whatever they have in season.

I also didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on flowers. I went to the floral department in my local grocery store and was able to get a good deal. I used carnations and baby's breath for the bridesmaid's bouquets.

Try bloominous.com vintage cottage collection. Their bridesmaid bouquets are baby's breath with a hint of greenery. They send you everything you need; you put it together. A safer way to DIY.

I also went to Trader Joe's about two days before. The flowers are cheap, and there is usually a large variety. They get different ones in every day.

It does take a certain amount of skill to arrange flowers though, which luckily a friend had those skills. I could have never made them look beautiful on my own.

There is a great YouTube video from a lady in Canada on how to make a baby's breath bouquet.

@Trista, those bouquets are gorgeous! I never would have known you didn't spend a fortune!

The stem number will depend on the type of baby's breath and how fluffy it is, so I'd discuss that with wherever you order from. Baby's breath is a more hardy flower, so I think they are easier to keep fresh. I'd assume you could put them in a floral fridge and they would be fine for a few days before the wedding. However, my advice is first to talk to a florist in your area. You may be surprised at the cost for what you are wanting and they would handle all of the prep work for you. I know other people say baby's breath stinks, but I've also heard other people say it smells nice. I think it depends on the type of baby's breath.

I am also doing baby's breath for most of my florals. The centerpieces, bridesmaids bouquets, and some in mine as well. My mom and I played around with centerpiece ideas a few weeks back and I had the centerpiece in my kitchen for over a week before the baby's breath started to look a little sad. I am not sure about the odor people are referring to but I did not notice anything. I also only had one bunch in my kitchen. Good luck!

Love the idea. Same here. Stupid to spend hundreds of dollars on flowers that die.

It smells horrible. And, I'm sorry, it looks like a weed. And you need more than you think, and it's not as cheap as you hope.

You're spending money on food that will be eaten, music that will fade, all kinds of things that won't be around the next day. You have a dress you'll wear for one day, programs that no one looks at, and shoes no one sees. But all those things seem to be okay, while flowers hit the floor.

It's called creating ambiance. You could very easily do away with all of that using the same rationale. Why have a wedding at all? You really don't need one.

But flowers are key. They are beautiful, they set the mood and you can donate them afterwards.

All baby's breath bouquets look like cauliflower to me.

I would try and add in something else, even just a few carnations.

I used quite a bit of babies breath for my wedding and didn't think it stunk. Then again we used a florist, idk if they do any magic with the smell. Anyway, idk if you can see the photo all that well but for my bm's bouquet I spent about $18 and on mine $50. I understand that everything adds up quick, but I thought that price was great and the bouquets were beautiful.
