Bachelorette in Florida - trip questions!

Katherine, on June 2, 2021 at 11:42 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 6

My bachelorette party is going to be in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this August. I am doing most of the planning because my maid of honor (FH's sister) is not a ton of help and I'm a perfectionist so honestly I'd rather plan it myself. We have rented an Airbnb house with a pool for a long weekend and have plans to go on a booze cruise and out to a few restaurants. I'm trying to figure out if it would be better to rent a car for our time there or just rely on Uber/Lyft? We have 7 people in our group, so we would have to rent 2 Ubers anywhere we want to go (including back and forth from the airport). After researching rental cars that would fit 7 people (plus luggage), it looks like it would be around $75 a person to split the cost of a rental car (plus gas). I feel like renting a car would allow us the flexibility of not having to worry about renting Ubers and if they're available when we need them. However, after researching how much it would be to Uber from the house location to the areas that we plan on visiting, it looks like it would be approx. $45 a person to use Uber (this includes renting 2 Ubers everywhere). I'm not sure if a rental car would actually be more convenient considering it's more money and we'd have to worry about who would drive and having at least 1 sober driver everywhere.

What do you all think? Rental car or rely on Ubers? I've used Uber plenty of times so I know it's a great service, I just worry about car availability when we're trying to go places and having to book 2 cars every time.

Florida people - are Ubers plentiful enough in this area to assume we'd be able to get 2 Ubers to take us to the local beach, back and forth to the airport, and out to eat for lunch/dinner? Thank you!!

I live in Miami and used to work in Fort Lauderdale.
I would do lyft/uber so that you don't have to worry about parking at the beach/downtown. Are you flying into FLL ? The airport probably isn't far from where you'll be staying and it's pretty easy to get a lyft/uber.

Uber or car service. Renting a car for a Bach party is going to suck for someone because someone always has to play Designated Driver. Not everyone will want to do this and it can lead to some tensions. Also, generally the more drivers listed on a rental, the more costs increase.
You can look into other local taxi/car service options to see if there might be a local alternative (at my husband’s Bach party they ended up hiring a school bus & driver for a day as it worked out cheaper than taxiing and Ubers weren’t readily available where they were). You might be able to find something like a van that would accommodate the whole crew. A driver for the whole weekend may be cost prohibitive but if you could hire someone for a few hours or a partial day, you could plan outings accordingly

We just had my daughters bachelorette weekend and opted to do Uber everywhere. It was so easy and didn’t have to worry about parking.

You can do UberX and get car big enough for everyone. We used UberX for my bach party an it was no issue. I would use Uber instead of renting a car. That way no one is drinking and driving and you don't have to worry with parking. There are always plenty of Ubers available, especially in Ft. Laud.

Don’t do a car rental. Uber is plentiful in Fort Lauderdale. Group activities so one day you might be out for awhile and the next having a pool party at the house to minimize the number of Ubers. If I’m at a bach, I have zero desire to drive.

If you have one day of activities, look into a chartered party bus or car service. Might be cheaper, would be fun to have the whole group together and definitely add to the fun vibe!

I think an Uber would be the way to go. While a rental would be more convenient than waiting on a ride - someone has to stay sober, someone has to help navigate, you have to find parking... to me it would be a lot more stressful. I’d personally rather pay $30 extra and enjoy the trip more.
