Bachelorette Party is 90s themed. What do I wear?

Rebecca, on December 2, 2016 at 2:49 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 46

My bachelorette party is coming up and it's 90s themed. I wasn't very fashion forward then, so all I know of were khaki pants and Gap linen trousers. (Should that go on Confession Friday??)

So, the 90s. What do I wear? How about hair and makeup?

You could always go the Clueless route, school girl skirt and knee high socks!

I wore babydolls and leggings in the 90s. Mini jean skirts and crop tops. Tube tops and low slung jeans towards the end of the decade. You could go the grunge route and do tank top, plaid shirt, baggy jeans rolled and Doc Martens.

ETA: Yes, this was pretty much what I wore throughout the decade.

ETA2: Hair in the early part of the decade was a lot of braids. Towards the end of the decade, glitter, glitter clips, glitter sprays. Same with make-up. At the beginning of the 90s it was natural face, red lips. Towards the end, glitter, lots of glitter and colour.

Is it a costume thing, or nicer stuff? Sorry, but 90ies just remind me of a ton of shitty clothes Smiley laugh

So either go the Clueless route as CJ recommended, or find a jeans outfit, or something off shoulders. And make sure there are scrunchies.

Or do what they did: http://www.popsugar.com/love/90s-Party-Ideas-22313197#photo-22313197

Actually, most people didn't wear scrunchies by the 90s. They went out around '88.

@JessieJV: Europe must have been delayed then. I definitely wore scrunchies in the 90s and so did my friends (plus wiki says they were popular until the mid 90s).

Oh I definitely wore scrunchies in the 90s. Granted, I was only in elementary school. But I did it.

I wore scrunchies in the 90s too. I wore a lot things I'd rather never think of again haha. Like stirrup leggings, jelly sandals, etc.

I don't know anyone who wore them in the 90s. We all used elastics or pins.

ETA: I started secondary school in 1990 so maybe we were all too cool for scrunchies by then.

Scrunchies were mine and my sister's thing in the 90's. That and those hairclips that were butterflies with flappy wings.

    Jelly sandals! I remember those.

The party is at a karaoke bar. Sushi and singing--and we have our own private room.

Doc Martens and hats, bold matte lipstick. It's all coming back to me now. (h/t Celine Dion)

@OG Kathryn right?! Those were so underrated. I looked ridiculous and loved every second. So did my sister. Difference: I was 6. She was 16.

    @Jessie - I totally wore scrunchies in the 90's.

@Lorith - omg the butterflies with the flappy wings were my favorite. I got so sad when one broke.

Overalls with a crop top or tank top with only one strap attached and hair in a half up on the side. (I'm guilty of both those "styles" back in the 90s)

Frosted eye makeup. I think that was a thing in the 90s. But really. This is a great excuse to watch Clueless and binge on Beverly Hills 90210.
