Back-up Plans?

Mrs. Spring, on November 18, 2020 at 12:08 PM Posted in Planning 1 21
What are some of your back-up plans if you are getting married between now and summer 2021 during this pandemic. My FH and I are already on our plan B and hope to have a tiny ceremony in my hometown with only a couple of guests. As the COVID numbers are surging, I'm worried that my hometown and/or state will have a mandate where non residents cannot even enter into their territory. This may seem crazy to some but I'm seriously worried about it.
Do you all have back-up plans, if so, do mind sharing them?

My fiance and I postponed to 2022. If there are still restrictions in place, we'll work with whatever we need to at that time, we don't intend to postpone again. Even if that means doing a ceremony with just us, our officiant, and two witnesses, we'll do whatever we need to. Hopefully, we'll be able to have our wedding as we currently have it planned.

We are set to marry in April next year and I am thinking of a plan b and c! I don’t know what to do with my maids or anything I’m at a lost I’m watching the news getting notifications about the numbers and I’m getting worried by the day! What are your number of guests? So far my guest list is about 75 people. I think I’ll have a solution by the end of today!

Back in April we postponed our original date to November 2021. Tbh, we thought we were being overly precautious by pushing it out that far, and that there was NO way the pandemic would still be going on at that point (19 mos later)! But, here we are 7 mos after postponing, and numbers are higher than ever. Now we are realizing there is a very real chance that there will be another spike next fall (as it seems to spike in cold weather). We are hoping for the best, but planning for the worst. If we are not able to have our destination wedding next fall, just the two of us may elope in New Orleans (if we feel safe doing so). If we don’t feel safe doing that option, we will likely just go to the courthouse & put the money we would’ve spent on the wedding into a new Harley. At this point, I am almost tempted to do that last option anyway LOL A new motorcycle would be an awesome way to get out of the house and social distance this Spring & Summer!

We are only having three guests. My concern is more how it is a destination tiny wedding. The area I'm marrying in is traditionally taking very extreme actions to reduce and prevent the spread of COVID. I'm worried that they'll eventually enforce a mandate where non residents cannot even enter into the state.

We postponed from October to April and most people will have to travel to get to our wedding, including us.

Where we live pretty much the entire country is on a travel advisory/out of state quarantine requirement, but you can test out of it (i.e. get a negative test). I think unless that gets removed or the state where we are getting married goes back on lockdown, we will go ahead with it. Probably won't get everyone we invited but if we get half/two thirds, I'll be happy.

I will say, 5 months out from the wedding I'm less concerned than I was in May. Maybe that will change...

My husband and I decided to get married on our original anniversary date in October of this year. Our big wedding has always been scheduled for March 2021, but now we won't care if we have to push it back because we already are married and had a minimony!

FH and I have decided that unless the entire state shuts down, which is unlikely as the state of NC Governor already stated won't help, we plan on having our wedding as planned but shrink down to whatever minimum's would be in place. We have a back-up list of 25 which is the smallest indoor crowd for NC and all of our guest's have refundable travel arrangements. We will only have this one event and will be happy regardless of what happens. We have been together 5.5 years and engaged for 2 so we are ready to just get it done lol.

Im not even planning a big wedsing. I only want a minimony and I'm worried that with upcoming madates, that may not be possible. We were hoping to exchange vows outside with only our parents present then dine outside at a restaurant afterwards. Afraid that future mandates will enforce no dining at all indoors at restaurants which would cause many of them to go out of business conpletely. And will enforce everyone to wear masks outside if you're not in the midfle of no where. I do not want to exchange vows with my FH with masks on, especially if we're outside.

I've been with my FH for over 5 years as well and engaged for 3. I was only planning a tiny ceremony with three guests but I'm worried that the madates will be so strict that the only thing we'll be able to do is exchange vows in our home. Which is fine but our parents refuse to dine inside due to covid and will wear masks. I don't want to pay a photographer to have every picture of them with masks on.

I think by April you will be fine, especially if you are only planning something simple. And if you are planning to dine outside then the indoor mandates won't even matter.

April is still 5 months away and I see more positive changes happening by then, than negative. Especially with a vaccine coming out soon.

Yasmine, indoor mandates matter because a restaurant will likely be unable to make any profit with outside dining only if this mandate goes into effect on 1/20/21. Many will go out of business from january to March if customers can only dine outside.... Meaning there will be very few options of restaurants by the time spring comes along. Do you get my logic?

I understand it, in my state that's not the case though. Many restaurants were/are still doing outside dining AND carryout and that's how they were making their money still. So most restaurants are still in business because of that here. Our governor also allowed alcoholic beverages for carryout as well.

You live in the south correct? It's already below freezing temp here where I live (up north). No one is eating outside between now and March. Several restaurants that I have enjoyed are now permanently closed. Sounds like tour state is doing well. This is not the case for every state.

No I live in Maryland where it is also freezing lol. Many places here invested in heated tents, my husband and I ate outside for lunch this past Friday. But no unfortunately Maryland isn't doing well, our numbers are continuously going up.

Oh what a coincidence lol and that sucks. Well we had out minimony at a Holiday Inn ballroom and last month. Have you thought about maybe renting a small hotel ballroom and getting dinner catered? Even though masks are required in public they didn't care that we didn't wear them for the minimony (Us or our guests). Once the event director came to make sure we had everything we needed during set up we didn't see their staff for the rest of the night which was great!

No, unfortunately our parents refuse to dine indoors unless it's their own house. Girl, I've thought of every possible situation. I would not stress if it was a true elopement (like I wanted). With our parents attending, it makes it super complicated. I'll just pray fir everything to work out.
