Backyard Wedding...regrets 100%

Mary, on September 3, 2021 at 1:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

THIS IS A PSA TO ALL MY BRIDES WHO ARE THINKING OF HAVING A BACKYARD WEDDING.

DON'T DO IT.
I am BEYOND stressed. Had I done more research beforehand, I would have definitely booked a venue. You are doing it ALL yourself. Rentals. Tents. Lights. Weather related rentals like heaters or air. Tables/chairs. Dj. Catering. Glassware. Flatware. Decor. BATHROOM RENTALS. EVERYTHING. Not to mention a backyard wedding is not any cheaper.
I'm so thankful I'm only getting married once (hopefully). Luckily I have a day of coordinator but even getting everything situated before is just 😟😟😟😟

Such good advice. Your experience will hopefully help some others still in the decision-making stage.

Thanks for the PSA. You points are well taken, and we've heard the same thing here so many times before. I really hope everything works out for you!

I hope things all worked out for you. We are doing an outdoor wedding for my daughter on a family farm and it is a ton of work. Like you said, you have to plan and do everything. Just keep in mind that you will be married no matter what, so try not to sweat the small stuff.

We definitely decided on an all inclusive venue because both my FH and I have busy , long hour work schedules and planning all those details would have caused me to have a breakdown. I think if I went a route that required all those details, I would have had to pay a wedding planner on top of all those costs.

Hopefully everything works out for you and try not to sweat the little things.

We had originally had an all inclusive restaurant, but they cancelled on us due to COVID. So we opted for a backyard wedding. Not only did we have to find and coordinate vendors in six months, we also had to get the backyard and house ready to receive about 100 guests. It was extremely stressful! Once places started opening up again, we found a new location and booked it immediately! It's not all inclusive, but half the stress has been removed just by NOT having it at our house.

Yes backyard weddings are a lot of work and stress. Honestly if it wasn’t cause this is my vow renewal and I want only about 50 guests I wouldn’t do it.
However I do feel a backyard wedding has a lot of advantages like no prefer vendor list, alcohol cost will be way lower, you just have to give yourself a lot of time to plan ahead. I am planning ours 2 years in advance.
