Bad Tan Lines: Help!

Emily, on July 13, 2018 at 8:37 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16

I've been working out in an effort to lose some weight before the big day, but now I have some terrible tan lines. I started using a self-tanning lotion to try to even out my skin, but it's not really making a difference. Has anybody ever used makeup to cover tan lines, or have any other suggestions on how to even out my skin? It's such a little thing, but it's starting to stress me out. Please and thank you!!!

Hi! Not sure where you live, but they do have spas where they do a skin scrub. It's meant to take off the top excess (dead) layers of skin. The goal is to even out skin tone and stimulate growth. It's my plan if I get any weird tan lines over the summer before my October wedding.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I live in central Florida, and there's must be something around. My wedding is end of August, so I should probably try that out sooner rather than later.

Please do not use a tanning bed. They are incredibly dangerous and increase your risk for skin cancer. You can try going for a spray tan, but use a salon that has someone to airbrush you. They should be able to help even out the tone of your skin.

Start using SPF 50 every time you go outside to help prevent tanning. Then go and get an airbrush spray tan before your wedding. I would probably get one a few weeks before just to make sure you like they way it looks.

Not good for your skin, but I’ve been going topless in a tanning bed to even out my lines. We’re big boaters and I refused to not swim all summer just to avoid tan lines. Figured for one big day and special event with all the money we’re dropping, I don’t want tan lines to ruin my pics, and six sessions in a tanning bed isn’t going to damage me for life.

    Im just finding some time
to lay out and wearing a variety of different tops to get a balance. Consider using a high SPF on the tan parts and a lower SPF on the lighter parts (always sunscreen though!! It ends up counterintuitive if you get burnt)

id advise against a make up cover up, as most make ups will transfer to your dress.

Im spending a lot of time in a super lightweight long sleeve white button up when I am out with strapping tops, if I can stand it with the heat.

Agree with going for an airbrush tan. Find a good place, and the person there will know how to apply the airbrush so that you don't have any tan lines. Just wear a strapless bra or bathing suit top, or if you really don't want lines many will spray you topless. (Don't worry, they've seen it all!)

I have a bad farmers tan on my arms and got an airbrush tan last week and she was able to blend my arms in pretty good.

I have a backless dress and I have been just laying out with sunscreen and laying out the privacy of my backyard, so undoing my bikini top strap in the back so I don’t have lines. Again paying a lot of money for this event, I don’t want weird tan lines if I can help it.

Definitely not using a tanning bed, not to worry. With the airbrush spray tan, do they just specifically target your tan lines? I had never heard of that before.

If you don't mind me asking, what is that top that you use when out and about? I haven't been able to find anything lightweight enough for the Florida heat!

My go-to is a button down from Old Navy.
Something like this, if not it exactly: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?vid=1&pid=221586002&searchText=womens+white+shirt&autosuggest=true

its very light weight/airy/breathable (I got it a little big), but, I don’t know how it would fare in Florida, hah! It doesn’t work so nicely when I start getting sweaty

They can target just the tan line area or they can spray everywhere but change the tone they use for the tan line area so that everything can be an even shade.

This exactly! It's my plan. I'd deal with the tan lines before I'd use a tanning bed as it's so very bad for you!

Hi Emily! The others give some great advice in this thread Smiley heart Professional, airbrush spray tans are a great & safe option to even out some unwanted tan-lines.

If you want, you could go for a trial run (sort of like with trial hair and makeup appointments) to see if you like it, how dark of a color to choose, and if it works for you prior to your big day.

They'll cover your whole body, not just topically where your tanlines are, so that you have an all-around even-color. Smiley smile
