Bad wedding favors ...

Just out of curiosity has anyone ever recevied a wedding favor that you didn't like or left behind? I'm sure I'm not the only one interested to see the answers ... it'd be good to know what to stray away from if we end up deciding to go this route.

I agree anything with the coupes name on it, is kinda pointless to me.. wth am i gonna do with it!? in my house?! lol..... but if it was on the a box of something edible or yea a matchbox, pen, etc... and @Savannah i freaking love that idea, i am gonna check it out.... st jude's is the one charity that hurts my heart the most.... there are many, but that one freaking breaks it in two... (especially when i look at my babies....Thank God for their health!)

We are not having favors. Its a waste of cash! Every wedding I have attended have had most favors to be left behind. I am usually on that leaves them behind, except for the chocolate or dessert bar! That is always a hit. Either way, we decided against it. The only gifts I am giving on the day of are for my CoFs.

I would stay away from trinkets and anything that is personalized, unless it is something that can be used and tossed. If you aren't willing to have your guest's names plastered around your home, why should your guest's want yours?

I always appreciate the edible, but I agree with those have issues regarding food prep. For my favors, I kept it really simple. I had clear boxes with colored tulle, and inside were Hersey's Hugs & Kisses. Individually wrapped, and most people like chocolate. Those who didn't? We had enough kids at the wedding who were sweeping the tables looking for any leftovers.

Worst favor: I despise jordan almonds. They look cheap (even though they aren't - come on, you give me a little bag of nuts as a thank you?? Seriously??) and are a complete waste of money....in my humble opinion...

I don't really like edible favors with the exception of a candy table.

My favorite favor: Wine bottle stopper. My friend even had some left over after her wedding and so my FH and I took extra - they just had a heart on the top (no name or anything personalized). We use them ALL the time and think about them everytime Smiley smile

My rule has been, anything that is personalized needs to be edible and made by a professional. All other favors need to be useful. I'm doing several throughout my events and have followed this rule but even if it was all cheesy stuff with our names plastered all over it our families would still keep it. They are an overly sentimenal lot.

I'm doing little maraca key chains since we're having ours in mexico.

I don't care for the little shaped cards that have the planing seeds in it. That was the favor at the last wedding we went to. It was cute, they were starfish shaped and they got married on the water, but never got around to planting it.

Bad bridal shower gift: melon scooper shaped like a heart that said "scoop of love" on the handle. I've NEVER used it and it was from 5 years ago.

Not terrible: shotglass with monogram on it filled with a candle. I used the candle, melted the rest out and how have an extra shot glass, though it doesn't match anything else I own.

Good favors from a baby shower: Mini bottles of champagne to drink the day the baby was born.

Avoid anything that has your names on it unless its food! The worst I received was a tea light holder with their names and wedding date - OK so your a friend but i am not going to put that on my mantle! Our catering company does "late night" passes so we worked with them and instead of doing it while the reception is in progress as each guest leaves they get a bag with a Kobe beef or black bean slider and tator tots - White Castle style! Out wedding is pretty far out and the reception ends at midnight so we figured that would be a great treat for the drive home

I don't like edible favors that are not wrap, like someone else posted did you put gloves on while putting it into tins, bags etc. We are having hershey kisses that will be personalize and with our color scheme. Also I am having bookmarks professionally made that will be personalize with our names, date, and a cross, I hope they're not left behind, everyone reads a book at sometime right!!! LOL!!! Also we are doing the personalized water bottle lable thing. That's it, not to many favors for us. I have always taken my favors from weddings, my cousin had their place card done in a rhinestone frame with guest names and their name and wedding date, it sits on my dresser in my bedroom and still looks great and it means something to me because he's family.

Worst favor: Random candies/Jordan almonds in a plastic cheap looking swan wrapped with tulle - I am not a fan of any favors that are edible personally

Favorite favor (other then for my own wedding LOL): heart shaped letter opener - it is all silver with a heart shape up top - I don't use it often but I still have it to this day and when I see it I am reminded of my cousins wedding day

    Our wedding favors:

Heart Shaped bookmarks - goes with our theme and can be useful for readers (and we have a lot of friends who are avid readers)

Key chain bottle openers: simple, classic, useful, and my FH wanted them for the guys as bookmarks are too "girly" they are engraved with our initials.

I got a picture of the couple with the date cut out with a fabric flower inside a bag. The picture was about 1 in. and the flower 1.5 in. The date on the tiny picture was March 24, 201

Yup that was a waste. We ended up throwing them away.

At my youngest sister's wedding, her MIL snuck in to the reception room when my sis and her wedding party were getting hair and makeup done after setting up and doing some decorating and she put these hideous cheap pear shaped candles that didn't match any of the wedding colors or theme at each spot with a tag that read "They're quite the pear". My sister and my BIL didn't notice them until they were seated and when they asked her MIL, MIL made a game of it saying she didn't know who put them on the tables and then later admitted to it. She's a strange duck.

A set of 4 frosted glass coasters with the couples name and date. Not my style or taste to have something personalized for someone else in my home. I'm sure though that someone enjoyed them Smiley smile

I'm doing a photo booth and candy/yummy treat buffet (even though it's been overdone I'm sure)....I'm hoping 50% will at least like one or the other...most folks would not care about a paperweight, bottle cork, or drink coasters with your name on it. When is the last time you visited someones house and seen them sporting bride and groom salt and pepper shakers? (Sorry if someone picked this) It's the wedding industry telling you people will like it. One wedding I went to had Godiva favors, and it was a big hit with everyone. Another one did bride and groom chocolate covered strawberries and it was really cute how they packaged it.

I got to say the cheesy lines bad

the things with your name on it a waste.. (unless its food or i still like my cards cause everyone loses the case anyway and still have the cards)

even food gets left behind. my MOH at her wedding had m & m in a cute clear jars.. most of them were left.

Worst - a cheap frame with a really lame poem

    best - a chocolate bar

    *mmmm*

we have a couple different favours because we couldn't agree on one thing.. hehe we have shot glasses, fishing lures, and little jars with sand/shells in them.. yeah, I know that that one is a little trinkety, but I know quite a few people will enjoy them. they are all somewhat personalized, but it's just a little paper tag, so it can be taken off Smiley smile

Worst favor I received was a candle shaped like an apple martini (mini so couldn't re-use the glass if I wanted to).

For my favors, we're doing a scroll telling the fact that a donation has been made on their behalf.
