Ball Gown Bustles

Victoria and Ralph, on March 2, 2014 at 8:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18

Ladies, show me your bustles! (For all dresses, but mostly ball gowns!)

I have a ball gown that I absolutely LOVE. It has gorgeous buttons all the way down the back and a beautiful train. How in the world do I bustle this dress? My dress is Allure 9126, for reference- I added a picture of the back also!

Also, when did you pull your dress up in the bustle?

A 4 point ballroom bustle works great for a ball gown like that and looks great. Most brides do the bustle for the reception some after the first dance and some before.

For that dress I would definitely use the traditional bustle, probably need 5 or 7 hooks for that big a train, that way you keep the look with the buttons done it Smiley smile

I put mine up just before dinner, but my train wasn't very long. I would probably put yours up right after the ceremony, so no one steps on your dress and rips something!

Thank you both! I definitely like the traditional/ballroom over bustles. My dress has no pick ups anywhere on it, and some of the other styles that I've seen make it look like pick ups on the back! The traditional style is perfect!

I think a ballroom bustle would look perfect for your dress. That type of bustle makes it look like there isn't a train, and it will show off all of those buttons.

Do a ball room bustle, it will look lovely on your gown. I tend to think a one point/American and Australian bustles all look like your dress has a wedgie.

    Wow! I love your dress!

I don't know much about bustles, however my mom and I are altering my dress full out DIY with a bustle. I think the other ladies are right, a traditional ballroom one would look good with yours. You can also google it and see what comes up, too Smiley smile

I'd love to see it when it's done up!

I'm doing a ballroom bustle, I have a cathedral train, so I'll probably do it underneath rather than on top though. Planning on pulling the train into the bustle before entering the reception.

Beautiful? Did you get it from Castle Couture in NJ? I tried on a similiar dress. It was an Allure Couture style c244 that is a contender. And yes ballroom bustle for sure.

I did an American bustle; this way, the buttons will line up with the top of the dress. Any other bustle made the dress have pickups, and I'm just not a fan up pickups.

I'm doing a ballroom bustle but underneath. It will be 5 points just for security. It just make the dress look like it doesn't have a bustle.

Thank you for the pictures Shannon! Your dress is beautiful Smiley smile

Future Mrs. Walden - Yes I did! I loved it there. The C244 is a beautiful dress!

Those are great ideas Mollishism, CeCe, and Ms. Pepe! I'm not a fan of pickups, so whatever my bustle ends up being, it will be as far from them as possible.

Thanks Victoria! I would ask the seamstress to show you what each of these ideas would look like
