Balloon Release Alternative

Michaela, on January 2, 2013 at 2:06 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

Hello My Fellow BTB's!

I have a dilemma I am trying to sort out. I really would like to do an interactive end-of-celebration activity to offically end our reception. My original idea was to do a sky lantern release like in the movie Tangled. However, my venue will not allow it. They also shunned sparklers too. Then I thought about a balloon release. Looking at how hurtful it is to the environment, not to mention me getting the balloons to the venue, I think I'm going to scratch that idea as well. What is a good idea a whole group could do on a nice summer night? (Hopefully lol) Thanks dolls!

Chinese lanterns? Not sure if those are better, but they would dissolve instead of sitting around like a balloon. There are the sparklers, bells, bubbles, biodegradable confetti?

The tinsel wands look like sparklers.

Totally did not know you were on here! We're doing tinsel wands since our venue won't allow sparklers.

I've noticed more and more places shunning sparklers. How dangerous have they become in the last 20 years? Or how bad were my parents because I certainly remember being allowed to wave them around as a child!!!

Maybe incorporate balloons in your reception and then see if you release them afterwards. Means less clean up for the venue... Smiley smile

Butterfly release is beautiful if it's not too cold. we're also thinking of doing a covered flashlight at night with designs on them to honor my mother and other relatives who have passed on along with a moment of silence. each person writes the name or draws a pic on special paper and we tape them over and voila!

FYI, the sky lanterns have a metal wire frame inside...so I don't see how that is any better for the environment than balloons. If a balloon release is done properly, it poses no harm to the envirnment and latex ballons are completely biodegradable...and no chance of catching anything on fire!
