BAM ladies: Post Wedding Survey

Ostrich, on June 11, 2015 at 9:28 AM Posted in Planning 1 119

I randomly think about things that happened at my wedding that I did or didn't do that were "hot topics" on here, or others that people often ask questions for advice. I came up with a list of some of the items that are heavily debated and how it worked out for you to try to help future brides make decisions. Feel free to add something and I'll add it to this OP

Type of Bar:

Type of Bar: Open, 5 types of liquor, 4 beer, 2 red, 2 white, champaigne

Kids at wedding?: Yes- one kid was running around during my dad's toast but other than that no big deal. No babies crying.

Unplugged?: No- had some really great pictures and i think having it unplugged would have discouraged people taking pictures of me the rest of the night too. I'm impatient and loved having pictures.

Seating Chart: Yes i had one. I forgot to remember what table i was at, so after i got my food i had to awkwardly go check

Videographer?: yes!! I had so much fun i ended up paying another $300 for the raw footage. For rehersal dinner, all day, and 3 different length films i only paid about $2500

Favors?: Yes- koozies. We ordered 200 and left with about 30, they were also used for the rehersal dinner

Bridal Party Sizes: 8 guys and 8 girls, relatively low drama but also low involvement. I paid for most of there stuff.

    Ceremony Length: 20 minutes

    Gap Length: Cocktail hour

    Reception Length: 4 hours

How many bride dresses: just one, i had bustle alterations and i didn't even end up bustling it

Plus One Philosophy: I gave basically everyone a plus one, and about 6 people who said they were bringing one didn't, so that bit me in the butt a little.

STDs? ( yes? how early): Yes, 10 months for an out of state wedding

    # of people invited vs # of people attended: 300 invited, 200 attended

Garter/Bouquet Toss: yes- everyone loved it. About 100 guests were in their 20s so they enjoyed it and so did we!

Type of Reception Exit (ex- sparklers): Nothing was allowed, they did an impromtu hand tunnel and it was cute

Where you registered: BBB, Amazon, CB- i hate how BBB doesnt have a thank you manager, but most gifts were purchased from there

ETA length of engagment: 1 year! Perfect amount of time i thought

Type of dinner: Buffet! We started dinner at 7 and everyone was finished eating by 8 for a 200 person wedding. Definitely make sure both sides are open!!

Type of Bar: beer and wine. A few guys snuck in some liquor from their rooms.

Kids at wedding?: No, just my nephews. One couple didn't come because of it.

Unplugged?: No and I'm glad! No one was in the way and guest got some of my favorite shots!

    Seating Chart: yep.

Videographer?: yes...still fucking waiting on my video

    Favors?: koozies. They were awesome

Bridal Party Sizes: 6 on my side, 5 on his. No drama, but it was a little expensive

    Ceremony Length: 20-30 min

Gap Length: One hour. Ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception were all at the same venue.

    Reception Length: 4 hours?

How many bride dresses: One. Ain't nobody got money for that

Plus One Philosophy: everyone got one and I wish I hadn't done it that way. Could have invited more people.

STDs? ( yes? how early): Yes...9 months ahead? People had to travel.

    # of people invited vs # of people attended: 84 invited, 62 attended.

Garter/Bouquet Toss: Nope. Awkward with a small guest list

Type of Reception Exit (ex- sparklers): we did a rose petal ceremony exit instead of a reception exit

Where you registered: Yes at William Sonoma and BBB. Most people used BBB

    Type of Bar: Open Bar.

Kids at wedding?: Yes, 23 of them. I made them activity bags to keep them occupied. They were served chicken fingers.

Unplugged?: No but nobody really leaves the pews to take pictures.

Seating Chart: Escort cards (tells them what table they are sitting at)

Videographer?: Yes and I am glad. I love our narrative video.

Favors?: Yes. My mother made them and was very proud. This was the one thing she really wanted to do.

Bridal Party Sizes: Large - 22 members with the kids.

Ceremony Length: 45 minutes. It was a traditional Greek orthodox service and we did the receiving line at the church.

Gap Length: 1 hour. Some of my friends went to a local coffee shop or people went to the hotel to drop off cars/check in and then took the shuttle to the hall.

    Reception Length: 7 hours.

How many bride dresses: Just 1. I loved my dress and loved wearing it.

Plus One Philosophy: We had space so we gave everyone a plus one.

STDs? ( yes? how early): No, we didn't have it on a holiday and any family out of town already knew about it.

    # of people invited vs # of people attended: Invited 480 (with plus 1s and out of country invitees), expected 325, 305 rsvped, 295 were served.

Garter/Bouquet Toss: No, only because we are older and most of our friends are 1) married or 2) do not need to be reminded they are single.

Type of Reception Exit (ex- sparklers): Nothing. We stayed still the end of the reception.

Where you registered: BBB but only had a small shower (I was fine not having one either)

    ETA Length of Engagement:15 months

ETA type of dinner: Traditional sit-down : Cocktail hour 6-7:30; soup, salad, main course, dessert.

And just for fun, share a picture: First Married Selfie

Type of Bar: We did an open bar for 4 hours, full premium beer, wine, and liquor. It switched to a cash bar at that point. I had this listed on our website and told anyone who was asking about the wedding. People had plenty to drink, and no one made a fool of themselves. In my circle, cash bars with free beer are highly the norm.

Kids at wedding?: We had no kids at the wedding, and only one couple declined because of that. They complained to other family but were essentially told to climb off it.

Unplugged?: We did NOT do unplugged, and I'm really glad. There were no ruined pictures, and we got some great guest pics. Know your audience, if you have a disrespectful family, they won't change during the ceremony.

Seating Chart: We chose tables, not individual seats. People moved around once the night got started, but it was mostly so we didn't need extra tables.

Videographer?: Nope. It would have been nice, but I don't regret not spending the extra money.

Favors?: Nope. Favors suck. I actually had people thank me for that haha.

Bridal Party Sizes: 4 on each side. It was a good number, not too big or too small. I def had some regret, I could have gone with just 3, but oh well. Live and learn.

Ceremony Length: 15-20 minutes. Again, we had people thank us for going short and sweet. We chose 2 readings from books which we also got compliments for.

Gap Length: We had about an hour between ceremony and reception, but they were held in the same room with cocktails and a snack bar during the break. We had some good music going and people enjoyed mingling during that time.

Reception Length: Total about 6 hours. Honestly we could have cut that down to about 4. Know your crowd. We don't have a dancing family and a small group of friends, so it was just us and bridal party by the end. We had a blast though.

How many bride dresses: One. I spent enough money on that one and I still don't feel like I wore it long enough.

Plus One Philosophy: All married/engaged/living together couples, yes. Other relationships, really depends on who else you'll know/how well I know your significant other.

STDs? ( yes? how early): We didn't, and I don't feel like we needed to.

    # of people invited vs # of people attended: Invited 90, 74 rsvp'd yes, 70 showed.

Garter/Bouquet Toss: That's a hard No. Again, people thanked us.

Type of Reception Exit (ex- sparklers): None. I paid for a party and I stayed til the end.

Where you registered: Target and Menards.

ETA: Length of engagement: 7 months

ETA: Dinner: Buffett- Chicken or Steak, pasta salad, roasted veggies, wild rice, garlic mashed potatoes, rolls. Dessert- vanilla cupcakes with raspberry frosting topped with a fresh raspberry

Type of bar: open (beer, wine, liquor, champagne) from cocktail hour (5:30) until after dinner (8:00). Kids: yes but not as many as we expected, no newborns (thank god). Unplugged ceremony and SO glad I did. People took photos immediately after and during reception without hesitation so it worked great. Seating chart: yes! Always. Favors: popcorn bar and it was a huge hit! (90% guests out of state/country so we didn't want unnecessary things for them to take). Bridal party: 3 girls, 4 guys. Uneven bridal party was perfectly fine. Ceremony length: 15 mins. Gap: 3 hours (where I'm from there's always at least a 2 hour gap but it was new for DHs family but everyone loved it because it allowed the family and friends who had traveled to actually spend some time together. Most people flew in Friday and left Sunday so Saturday was their only full day. Reception length: 4.5 hours including cocktail hour. Dress: one! STDs: yes, to my family in Canada and his family in Michigan. Guests: 180 invited, 75 showed. I was originally very upset with how many couldn't make the trip down south but honestly I was so happy with the turn out. You honestly don't even notice the people that you thought you would miss not having there. Garter/bouquet toss: yes yes 100xyes! So fun for everyone. Exit: I was bummed about not being allowed to do sparklers and I couldn't throw anything so we decided not to do anything. DJ just had the guests line up on two sides and we went through the middle and it was PERFECT because I got to hug some friends and family and bridesmaids on the way out and it was one of my favorite parts of the reception. Registry: BBB & a wish list at cabelas

    Videographer?: no

    Favors?: Candy

Bridal Party Sizes: 2 on each plus 2 flower girls and the ring bearer.

Ceremony Length: was a catholic ceremony with communion so a little longer 30-45 mins or so.

    Gap Length: 2-3 hours.

Reception Length: reception was an hour and a half or so and then the dance was 4 hours or so.

    How many bride dresses: one

Plus One Philosophy: everyone got one but most didn't use it

STDs? ( yes? how early): We never sent any

    # of people invited vs # of people attended: 130 invited and around 70 showed up

Garter/Bouquet Toss: No, was very few single people, we gave a flower to the couple who was married the longest instead (my aunt and uncle had just celebrated 51st anniversary)

Type of Reception Exit (ex- sparklers): Didn't really do one.,. we stayed until the end of dance and were almost last ones to leave (with bp)

Where you registered: No, we'd already been together 12 years and was nothing we needed
