She did her own makeup partly because it was cheaper and partly because as an actress, she doesn't trust anyone else with it -- it's practically in the community theatre code of ethics.

    Thanks, everyone!

There are lots more photos, but they're high-res and un-watermarked so I can't just post them here. If y'all want to show up in chat Monday or Tuesday, though, I can share them there!

The whole weekend was super intense. We had originally planned to go to a mikvah in Oakland together the Friday afternoon before the wedding, but we had to cancel, because we found out Thursday morning that W's grandfather had passed on Wednesday, and we couldn't be sure we'd be able to make it to the mikvah and still be home at our temple in time for services. Our temple's head rabbi called to offer W condolences, which was really sweet of her, and our officiating rabbi brought a memorial candle for the ceremony, and that was included in her opening remarks.

Saturday morning our photographer and her girlfriend S (who we've actually known longer than our photographer -- I think at this point she's probably one of our oldest friends) took me to Trader Joe's to get our flowers, and S helped me prep the flowers to be arranged the next day. Then she came with me to pick up the rings from the jeweler, where they were being engraved. It turned out they had engraved the Hebrew backwards -- I had given them a pair of PDFs to feed into their computerized laser that actually does the engraving, but somehow their system had managed to reverse the letters so it was written left-to-right instead of right-to-left as it should have been. They fixed it with no fuss, though it did take a couple of hours and nearly made us late for the rehearsal. No big, though!

Saturday evening we held the rehearsal dinner at our favorite local hole-in-the-wall vegan Asian fusion place, and W's dad sneakily paid our bill while we weren't looking, which was really nice of him -- but also pretty cute.

I was originally going to wear my favorite vintage 30s blue necktie with silver embroidery, but W requested that morning that I wear the pink bowtie and I was like *shrug* okay! I have no idea why W is wearing a length of pink ribbon around her waist, I guess it just caught her fancy and it didn't occur to me at the time to ask -- she does stuff like that all the time, lol.

The ceremony was amazing -- I had thought our rabbi wasn't going to read the Hebrew for the seven blessings, which I was a little bit sad about, but she did and it was great! There was a little confusion about the first kiddush -- I thought we had decided to share it with just W's boyfriend, as a way to signal that the three of us are a family, but the rabbi instructed all the chuppah bearers to partake so I guess we should have talked more about that.

We had a couple of minor technical hiccups: we did rehearse the day before using the venue's speakers for the music, and we thought they were loud enough, but on the day of no one could hear them over the rest of the guests, so we wound up playing the ceremony music on my phone. Later, our photographer's husband ran off to their place and brought back his computer speakers, which were much louder, and hooked them up to be used the rest of the night. He also helped me get around the issues we were having with the livestream -- we wound up having to broadcast it using his phone as a wifi hotspot, because our venue's wifi had some kind of firewall or upload limit preventing us from successfully broadcasting with it. The end result was that the livestream's audio is basically unlistenable, but it was better than nothing for our friends who couldn't physically make it.

During dinner, W's 12-year-old cousin collected everyone's place cards and made a game out of making people pick names out of her hand and saying whoever you picked was... I don't entirely remember but it was definitely a cootie-catcher style thing and it was adorable. I mostly remember because I had to make sure our photographer, who's allergic to an ingredient in the dessert we served the rest of the group, got hers back before dessert was served so the caterers would know who to give her dessert to.

If I were to go back and do it over, I would probably hand myself some booze and tell myself to chill TF out and spend more time focusing on W. I was so nervous and so determined that everything would go as smoothly as possible it was really hard to get out of "I'm responsible for ALL OF THIS"-brain!

Oh, and for all the new brides thinking about board and card games: our photographer's poly group brought their us-friendly CAH set with the Holocaust and murdered-sex-worker and racist jokes removed, and we also had Forbidden Desert, several sets of Gloom, Dixit and probably a few other games -- Timeline and Fluxx were far and away the favorites.

Thanks, Kristina! I crocheted all our yarmulkes myself, and all I knew about our aesthetic was W had decreed there should be as much pink as possible, so I just used whatever nice pink and purple yarn I could find lying around Smiley smile

@Carmen -- my hair? You sure you don't mean my wife's hair? I'm the one in the suit, and while I agree my curls were amazing that day, it's hard to beat her pink with purple roots LOL
