Bar Package or Supply your own alcohol

PHXBride, on August 20, 2017 at 12:57 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

We are having trouble deciding, can someone who purchased all of their own alcohol give me some advice. We are not necessarily looking to save money, it would be nice, but we want to choose our selection.

We supplied our own and our caterer supplied the bartenders. We had a bit left over but we just drank that later. If you do supply your own make sure you know your crowd. We could've used more Crown Royal and Hennessey at our wedding while we had quite a bit of vodka left.

We are supplying our own because we are avid scotch enthusiasts. We've been slowly collecting some amazing bottles that we hope our guests will want to take the opportunity to try.

We also realize scotch isn't for everybody, so there will be plenty of wine, beer, and other liquors. Even for these, it's nice to be able to choose exactly what is served and not be at the mercy of your venue and/or caterer.

Our caterer is supplying all of the mixers, bar-ware and the bartenders.

It was much cheaper for us to buy our own. Also, we had more flexibility over what alcohol we had. Our venue did not allow liquor, so we had beer, cider, three kinds of wine, and two kinds of champagne. Most of the wine was purchased at Bevmo during its 2 for 1 sale. Awesome deal, and they bought back the unopened bottles (plus we had a free tasting). Our caterer provided non-alcoholic drinks and licensed bartenders.

I did this the first time around, but can't do it this time with our venue, and wish we could.

We got some local beers and others that were our faves, a prosecco because we had an amazing punch that was great with champagne in it, red and white wine, and one signature drink. We bought all but the liquor from Whole Foods who allowed us to return any unused alcohol back to them. We paid a licensed bartender 25/hr for 4 hours and for 60 people we spent less than $500 on alcohol with tons left over.

We are supplying our own. Purchasing from Total Wine and More because they allow you to return unopened bottles. Also taking full advantage of ibotta rebates!

It's always going to be cheaper to buy your own! You get to pick exactly what you want as well. My friend spent $1000 for alcohol and had 250 guests and ended up returning half of it (from Costco, keep your receipt!)

Now that I'm planning my own wedding I see why she went that route, we are too. It's just so much cheaper and why not save 1 or 2 grand that could be spent on a honeymoon or something!
