Bar/alcohol

The ultimate package I got with the venue includes a glassware bar but they would normally do plastic cups. We were thinking glassware would look nicer but my dad was saying that plastic may be better bc of safety. I mean id rather take a drink in a plastic cup on the dance floor with me than a glass, but idk, I see both sides, is plastic tacky? Or safer than glass, or does glassware have a more formal feel? (Its not a casual wedding its more formal) What did you have at your bar?

I like the idea of glassware. But I see what you mean by rather take plastic onto a dance floor. But honestly for my wedding people took their glassware to the dance floor and it seemed fine

I could see glassware at a super formal event. But for a typical wedding where guests have the option to take drinks on the dance fllor or around the room, plastic cups seem like safer alternative. They make them in various styles so they aren't your typical frat party/ball game cups.

You could always do glassware on the tables for dinner and switch to plastic afterward.

If your wedding is formal, then I would 100% go with the glassware, especially if this is already included. I've been to over 40 weddings, and I can only remember 2 that used plastic instead of glass. I never felt any different taking a regular glass vs. a plastic cup onto the dance floor, and out of the roughly 38 weddings I've been to with regular glassware, I have yet to witness a single person break a glass. Actually, one exception--my husband dropped a wine glass at our OWN wedding, but that was during the best man's speech, not on the dance floor. That being said, if one person accidentally dropped a glass on the dance floor, your venue staff would quickly clean it up. Glassware is generally expected at formal weddings to begin with, so my advice would be to go with it!

For most 'sit-down' or formal weddings, glassware is the norm. The only wedding I've been to which did not have glassware was a really casual affair in a friend's backyard!

Definitely glassware. Glassware is standard at semi-formal through formal weddings, and plastic cups are for casual weddings (usually outdoor weddings). Since you're having a formal wedding, plastic cups would look very out of place. Your package includes glassware for a reason

At first I was disappointed that my venue would not allow glass for the drinkware, but I realized at the end of the night that it was a blessing in disguise! I think at least 5 drinks were dropped in the last hour by tipsy people on the dance floor. It would have been a disaster had we had glass. We splurged on “fancier” plastic cups that looked like glass and they ended up looking perfectly fine with the rest of our formal tableware.

How about a compromise, start with glassware until dinner then after dinner is served switch to plastic. I've seen this done and it makes sense.

Honestly, for me personally I wouldn't even care. I see both sides just like you and with COVID I feel like the "traditional" rules don't apply. I'd rather be safe and "tacky" than carefree and "classy" lol

Our venue provides shatterproof glassware - not my favorite look but best of both worlds I guess. At the end of the day, people will simply be happy to have a drink in their hand.

We used plastic at our nice semi formal event.
Plastic is easier. No breakage from anyone who’s had too much of kids. It was cheaper than renting enough glasses for everyone to have multiple drinks.
We did rent glass Champaign flutes for roasting and water goblets for the dinner table. But the bar had plastic. I opted to a nicer thicker plastic but still plastic none the less. It was fine. No one cared.

I am using plastic at my wedding, but it is a very casual vibe.

We made a couple COVID switches that included going to disposable. We removed the pre-arranged stemware from the tables and had to eliminate the self serve non-alcoholic beverage stations <water, tea, lemonade, coffee>.

We kept the champagne flutes, real glass, but then they were cleared after toasts I.e. only single serving.

Also, for safety, a lot of venues will switch to plastic when the dance floor comes out!

We used glassware! I am not a fan of plastic, especially at a more formal wedding. It will also look much nicer in your photos with people drinking out of nice glasses rather than plastic cups. Drinks will also taste better out of glass.

I think this is dependent on the guests. I say that because our friends love dancing and drinking. Therefore everything we have is plastic. We have trumpet toasting glasses, round bottom water glasses as well as the wedding favor custom 16 oz flex cups that have out name and wedding date on them.

If our friends were a bit fancier and would not enjoy drinking and dancing as much we would likely have done some glassware. Then again we all used to work for Coors together so we are a pretty laid back crowd.
