Barn wedding but don't like rustic

kelley, on September 26, 2017 at 6:34 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 18

Im getting married in a barn becuase venues near Nashville right now are either a barn or very expensive when your on a budget. I'm not into rustic wedding decor and really wanted a garden wedding instead of a barn, but its what i could find that was nice and fit my budget. Really could use advice on how to make it feel less like a barn and less rustic. Also the barn is completely white if that helps with any ideas! Thanks to anyone who helps!

Cover it up. Start collecting fabric!

I agree! Incorporate drapery and a lot of flowers! If it has anything you can wrap (beams, posts, etc) look into getting garland made to do so! Definitely helps with the garden theme.

I'm a rustic hater that is getting married in a barn. Okay, I say a barn but that's not true. It's a horse farm and the ceremony is outdoors in front of a historic mansion, and then the reception is in a structure that has been created to look "barn like" but doesn't have actual farm things in it. Also all white.

I say all that to tell you that you can still have your garden party! Mine is somewhat wildflower/outdoors/garden themed. Don't rustic up your decor- stay away from wood, rustic looking flowers like babys breath, and other things that you see all over "rustic wedding Pinterest."

Leave out any and all Mason Jars, burlap, distressed wood, suitcases, wood slices, light pink, co boy boots, and cutesy fonts, lol

I feel you. I actually love the look of barn weddings when they DON'T look rustic. I would invest in renting some nice 6 ft rectangular farm tables and Chiavari chairs. Use a lot of greenery and candles.

I would also make sure that the venue is one of those barns that has real hardwood floors, and ac. I'm sure your guests do not want to be walking on dirt or pebbles all night. (basically renovated into a modern event space, not just a tabacco barn.)

Definitely recommend draping. Avoid as Miranda said all things country. Go for sparkles and shiny and you'll achieve your vision

If the barn is already white, you don't have to waste money on draping. You have nothing rustic to hide.

Use lights and flowers to get a garden or midsummer night's dream look. Flowers used high up can be faux-shop with coupons between now and your wedding.

Buy string lights when they are marked down over the holidays and check www.searchtempest.com and local bride to bride Facebook groups for second hand decor. You can save a fortune.

Lots of greenery! White lights. Can you maybe find some kind of fountain or something that would resemble something out of a garden? Haha

    Idk!

Wrap the support poles in fairy lights. Bring in lots of flowers. (You can use them as favors people can take home after the wedding.) Avoid rustic-y stuff like other PP have said. It can be done.

    Lots of green and gold.

@christy THANK YOU. FH thinks I'm nuts for spending $800 on gold flatware for a venue that already supplies flatware. I can't get enough of it!!!!

Oh me too! We're getting married on a farm, but only part of it is an old 80+ year old barn. The vendor has loads of decor to make it our own. I hate rustic like burlap/lace/chalkboard/Mason jars everywhere, it's so overdone. But I do like natural, woodsy elements with modern elegance and a hint of vintage (greenery, natural wood, clean lines, colored glasses, etc.). I just don't want my wedding to look like a Pinterest explosion.

How ridiculous a barn wedding? Born on a mountain, raised in a cave and now this! What next honeymoon in a van down by the river ?

Depending on the barn you can do super cool industrial feel. I never wanted to get married in a barn, but of course we checked one out and now guess what? LOL its gorgeously remodeled to look modern inside and classic outside. That being said I am avoiding anything and everything cowboy/lace/burlap I'd say go heavy on the greenery and make it sleek with the barn as a giant accent> Good Luck!

    HELLO!

This is how I feel exactly! I wanted a fairytale garden themed wedding but the gardens around me were too expensive and we settled for a barn. There's even a horse who will be watching our wedding from nearby lol If it's okay with you, could you share photos of how your wedding day look like?

I'm in Texas and every other wedding venue has a dang barn for the reception facility. I do not want a barn nor a hotel. However, it's the barn venues that have such beautiful outdoor wedding spots. I was curious how brides are disguising their barn venue.
