Bartender - Virtual Tips

Dee, on July 26, 2021 at 3:21 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18

Anyone know how to set up a virtual tip jar for a bartender? The bartender does not have venmo or paypal. He is being paid x amount plus tips, but no one carries cash anymore. We thought the virtual tip jar would be a good solution, but does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?

Actually the wedding couple should be covering the tips. Guests shouldn't have to pay for anything at your event. Makes it easy! You're correct people won't be carrying cash to a wedding. Have a great event!

Maybe put a jar with a QR code printed on it? Seems like whatever you do should be as quick and convenient as possible.

Makes sense, but what is the QR code connected to, the bartender does not have paypal or venmo.

Could you set one up? Just make a venmo for the night and then you can check the amount and give that to them

Yes, we could I tried, but I have my own venmo account so it would not let me make a new account under my phone number.

If tips are considered part of the bartender's fee (that is, their up front fee is reduced to account for tips received), then the reception hosts should pay for that. That way, the wedding guests aren't subsidizing the bartender's fee.

He is being paid, tips are truly just extra.

Honestly I think people who would think to tip a wedding bartender would bring singles (or a $10 and be covered for the night). I think a virtual tip jar is unnecessarily complicated

Other than a cash jar or having the bartender set up a venmo, the only other idea I can come up with is to just have your venmo QR code there and then however much you received that night give the bartender that much in cash or check. It seems like a lot of work, but it's the only other option I can think of. I will say, I think more people will have cash than you might expect (depending on the age range of your guests).

You should be providing the bartenders tip as they are working for *you* for the evening. All gratuities are paid by the couple.

He could do a QR code and sign up for a cash app. I feel like most people have that now days or have a cash jar.

Why would guests tip a bartender at a wedding in the first place? Tips are the responsibility of the couple hosting. I would plan to cover the tips yourself and scratch the tip jar (whether physical or virtual) completely.

I wouldn’t even set this up. You need to tip him at the end of the night. Not your guests.

You'll need to be the ones tipping the bartender, not your guests.

We've always brought a little cash to tip bartenders.

As for the people asking why you'd tip when you're a guest, because that bartender sees you and will give you more alcohol in your drinks. We've even gotten shots when bride and groom stated no shots, because we tipped. 🤷

I would plan to tip the bartenders yourselves and not have any kind of tip jar

It is taboo to ask your guests to tip any vendor. Add an extra lump sum to the fee you are paying him.

It's your responsibility as the host to tip the bartender. Don't foist this responsibility off on your guests.
