Base for centerpiece? I need opinions and ideas please!

Mrs. F-u-..., on July 23, 2014 at 12:29 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

Months ago I found teacup planters (it fits the venue really well - bungalow coffee house turned wedding venue, they even has a teacup chandelier inside). I can't decide what to do under these for a base. (Each planter measures 8L x 6.5W x 4.5H in.)

I will plant either flowers or a green plant in these. I'm planning on using white linen for the tables and not doing place settings (casual reception). I'll probably place a wedding mad libs at every setting though. Probably having 10 tables.

Should I:

1) Put nothing under them, they'll look fine as-is (cheapest option, obviously)

2) Put a garden trivet/stepping stone under it to give more of a dimension to it ($10-20 probably per trivet)

3) Find a container (plastic or wood) that would hold a section (maybe a square foot) of sod and place the planter on the grass (cost possibly $10/table depending on containers used)

A wood cookie with some moss? Not sure if that would be too rustic for what you are thinking....but, it could be cheap if you knew anyone who had some logs laying around.

I'd do an oversized paper doily! I know you can get them in different colors, like the cherry blossom pink I know you're excited about Smiley smile And it'd be relatively cheap to buy a package of several rather than buying individual bases for each table.

Doily was another option I had thought about. I forgot to list that! My MOH mentioned about possible dye leaking to the tablecloths if the doilies were dyed a strong color. But I'm thinking of buying my linen instead of renting so that's won't be an issue.

Surely you can order doilies already colored and not have to dye them. I was thinking maybe paper doilies. (Easier to clean up and you don't have to worry about what to do with them afterwards, haha)

Oriental Trading Company has a set of white doilies $4.25 for 36, or they have heart shaped pink ones (with white and red) $8.50 for 100. I don't know it's a suggestion. Smiley smile

I had found some on Etsy that were hand dyed navy - that's where the question of color transfer came from. I was thinking of navy so it stands out against the white linen. If I incorporate pink with it, it will be the flowers or the paper (menu, thank yous) on the table.

    (Going to Google...) Smiley smile

Oh! Yes, yes, do the navy doilies with pink flowers. YES. I love it. And the dye should be okay as long as no one spills anything on the doily. Haha. But even if one or two get ruined, it's just a tablecloth. How much can that cost?

The price for buying and renting linen is about the same - so I'm buying so i don't have to worry about any damage, etc... I'll be spending around $200 for linen. The navy doilies I had found are under a dollar each on Etsy:

Ooo doilies are a great idea!

For centerpieces, I'm cutting a swatch of cheaper fabric and ironing the edges under. Shouldn't have to sew the hem since the fabric should hold the fold with enough heat from the iron. This was another cheap option I came up with instead of tablecloths, wood cuts, etc.

Hmm I like the saucer under the tea cup but that one looks too small. Tea cup saucer that fits the teacup would look nice, and maybe even a doilie under that? Just a thought...
