We are going to be registering at Bed, Bath & Beyond this coming Saturday, and I was just curious about others experiences. I have registered for my babies before and remember a store associate following me around telling me everything I "needed", which was basically a whole bunch of stuff I really didn't need at all.

When I made my appointment to register at a bridal expo I was at, they told me the consultation would be about an hour and a half long. I was hoping I'd go to the desk, they'd set our registry up for us, give us a gun, and we'd be off (maybe 5-10 minutes?). Do they mean the whole experience will be an hour and a half total? From the time we walk in to the time we walk out?

We have lived together for about a year and half now and are very much established in our townhouse. Most things will be upgrades, so I really don't need to be coached on what to register for, and am really hoping someone doesn't follow me around the store doing just that. Please, share your experiences with me so I know what to expect Smiley smile

You're so very right. I don't really have an issue being blunt either Smiley smile I'll keep this in mind.

I'm the same as you. Not quite sure why they find the need to "analyze" anyone's anything! Everyone's needs are different. Not everyone needs or has a cookie cutter registry.

She (BB&B) followed us around but went back up front a few times, so we did have a few minutes to ourselves in a couple of the sections. I admit I did add a few things here and there that I otherwise wouldn't have, because I was HANGRY by the end and just didn't want it to take any longer. I went online when I got home and deleted lots and added a bunch of other stuff.

I will say that she was helpful about choosing between some items/brands here and there, they know a lot about the store products. It was also helpful for her to show us how to navigate the analyzer portion of the website, which showed us the number of things in each price range, etc that we had done.

I meant if you don't want a consult, don't make a consultation appointment. It's their job to guide you through the store, recommend products, etc.

If you want to rummage through the store on your own and scan stuff, use your app scanner instead of being annoyed at the consultant following you around the store.

BB&B is great because you have a lot of tools online too.

Wait, hold up! SUCH a good idea! I can create the registry on my own online and then go around the store scanning things with the app! That's awesome! I think I'm going to cancel my appointment in favor of this!

Is the app just the regular BB&B app? or a specific registry one?

Yes! It's just the regular app, and you go to the registry tab. I love the app. It recommended stuff for us and if you don't need them, just check it off.

There's a bar code symbol, which is the scanning gun in the app.

If you have a question about an item while in the store, the associate will help you without the guidance of a full consult, which seems to be what people want a lot of the time.

We created the registry online and I added a handful of items before we arrived at the store. We were given the 101 on the handgun and asked if we wanted any help. We said we were good to go. Before we left they gave us the pitch claiming we needed X number of gifts, but I disagreed since we have more than one registry and a spatula shouldn’t be viewed in the same light as an insta pot. The employee told us if we had any questions, to just come back to the desk. We didn’t, but a couple of times he found us and asked how it was going. We quickly realized we didn’t need many items so we added more fun and different stuff on ours (e.g., picture frame for our future dog (ended up being one of the first items bought), air purifier, humidifier, guacamole saver (I hear it’s amazing), frameless candles, etc.). For our Amazon registry we added board games, gardening stuff, succulent planters. We wanted to make sure we had a variety of price points and I wanted people to pick out gifts they like to give instead just a bunch of appliances.

We are doing ours online. It's so much easier in my opinion. You can see the reviews and just look at the things you want.

Sign up online and then go in and ask for the scanner and say you’ve already done the consultation and you just want to add items. Worked like a charm!

When FH and I went, the consultant tried to follow us around too, we basically just told him that we preferred to walk around by ourselves. He wasn't too happy at first about that, but we eventually got him to go and he kept "checking" in with us. FH and I made it a game, hide from the consultant, LoL. We took about 10 minutes checking in and then about an hour and a half walking through the store.

We haven't registered yet, but my friend registered at BB&Ba couple weeks ago and she said it was awful. Similar to what others have said, someone followed them around the whole time and told them what to get. When my friend tried to be polite and say "that's not really our style" or "we really don't have room or use for something like that in our house" she criticized them and said they HAD to have these things on the registry. She went home that night, deleted the whole registery and started over online.

UPDATE: So we went yesterday! At the advice of others, we created our registry online beforehand. When we walked in, we passed the desk and I thought about stopping but just kept going. We used the scanner feature in the app and it was SO easy! Sometimes I forgot to make sure it was set to scan for the registry and not just checking a price in-store and we had to go back and rescan the correct way, not a huge issue.

As we were nearing the end, we were side-by-side with a couple at the stand mixers who were being followed by a consultant and using a gun. They watched in amazement as I mosied up to the display, scanned what I wanted on my phone, and continued on with no one behind me telling me I needed every single attachment. We overheard them tell their consultant they were “hungry” and would come back when they were done eating lol can’t help but think they just wanted her off their back after seeing how we did it.

After they left, their consultant made it her business to check in with us a few times to offer us her two cents. I guess she didn’t know what to do with herself. Luckily we were only there a short time thereafter so we could escape. All in all it was very pleasant and I would recommend anyone do it that way. Especially if you have a living arrangement with your FH already and don’t need every. Single. Thing.
