BBQ Food For Wedding?

Jenny, on April 17, 2014 at 9:35 PM Posted in Planning 1 14

We are having an all outdoor ceremony and reception at a country club. We are thinking of having a buffet of bbq food. For those who had or are planning bbq food what were your appetizers and dishes? How did you still keep it fancy and wedding like? Any other good ideas for food that aren't the traditional meat with potatoes?

. We had it, but we didn't try to make it fancy. Our wedding was more fun than fancy.

We didn't have any apps, but our sides were bourbon baked beans, baked potato salad, and cole slaw. And people were going back for seconds and thirds.

We are having pulled pork sandwiches, smoked turkey sandwiches, cole slaw, fruit salad, mac n cheese (hopefully) or mac salad, and we are having a cookie table. Cant be from pittsburgh and not have a cookie table lol! We decided no appetizers because our centerpieces are buckets that will be filled with peanuts or chex mix

I would be really careful about messy food when I'm dressed nice. It would not thrill me to go to a fancy wedding and be eating finger food. No.

We are doing BBW chicken pieces, pulled pork, roasted redskin potatoes, country green beans abd baked mac n cheese. Nothing fancy for apps, just meatballs, spinach dip and cheese/crackers.

We are having a buffet of what we typically serve at one of our home back yard BBQ's - BBQ chicken breast, Steak tips, Ceasar salad, baked mac, Corn & Broccoli with bread. Not too messy and we are having a semi-formal wedding.

We're doing pulled pork and chicken sandwiches, mac n cheese, some kind of potato dish, salads, green beans, and maybe cornbread. For apps we're mainly doing family specialties: fruit salad, bbq meatballs, cheeseball & crackers, and a veggie tray. Ours is a casual reception but I wouldn't worry about making it fancy. It is what it is and most people will appreciate the good food!! :-)

Mrs. King - ours wasn't messy. Barbecue isn't always ribs and things you don't use a fork for.

We are having - rehearsal dinner though - bourbon glazed chicken, Ribs, Mac & Cheese, Green Beans, Tons of corn bread, and baked beans.

We're also doing a fajita station for some reason, I'm not planning, but FMIL wanted us vegetarians to have our own station where we can get black bean fajitas made so whatever makes her happy!

You can do it and have it be nice, you just need to find a good BBQ caterer. We were going to use one that did some really fancy stuff that you wouldn't have even thought of as BBQ food. Helps keep costs down, too.

Going to your local Red Hot & Blue? NO.

Pulled BBQ pork and chicken, rolls for buns, baked beans, redskin potatoes, mac n' cheese, green beans, coleslaw. Iced Tea & lemonade for drinks. Apps are fruit and cheese skewers, brushetta, chips and pretzels.

And if you are worried about it being messy - don't. See, I think plated meals that are covered with sauces or gravy that can drip, and even pasta is more messy than BBQ. I think unless you are eating ribs off the bone, you do not have to worry about making a mess. I was at a wedding once with a pasta and salsa station...that stuff ended up everywhere for some reason.
