Bbq theme outdoor wedding...need help with the details.

Priscilla, on August 22, 2016 at 11:19 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 24

Hi everyone, I'm a newb. Wedding is scheduled for 04/22/2017 and all we have reserved is the venue. My Fiancee and I both work part time at the Botanical Garden in town and oversee plenty of weddings a year, but guess what? I don't know what to do for my own even though I've seen it done hundreds of times.

We want a simple and laid back with about 75 guests (15 of which are children)

We are doing backyard bbq type of thing, but I need help with the details. I'm so indecisive and don't know what to wear.

Since we are doing bbq, we decided to incorporate the red and white checkered picnic like table runners on white linens. His stepdad is making the wood rounds for our centerpieces and I've bought several pewter old antique-ish mugs to use as vases for either daisies or baby's breath.

We'll be serving brisket and sausage and have cupcakes instead of cake.

What should my fiancé wear? I think I'll be wearing something short and simple...kindy airy.

What about slacks, a dress shirt, and suspenders or something similar? I've seen that done a lot for more laid back weddings!

We are very low budget and are doing an indoor BBQ setting. My brother has a friend with a smoker. My fiance and groomsmen are just doing black slacks. White button up T-shirts and ties. I have a light flowy empire waist dress. Doing semi casual dress for guests. It's ur day, do what you want! :-)

Make sure it's catered by a licensed and insured caterer.

We won't be self catering. The garden I work for has a list of preferred caterers and although I'm allowed to use an outside caterer, I'm getting a really good deal by using one of them (perks of the job).

My fiancé was thinking of doing the slacks and button ups, but he wants to wear his Nike Air Max shoes -_- (He's a sneakers/cap/oakleys kinda guy)

I figure it is his wedding too and he can wear what he wants, but how do you dress that up?

No, that isn't all we are serving lol. Those are the entrees. I'm not too worried about the food, I was just describing the jist of it.

Will he button the shirt and wear a tie or bow tie? That would dress it up a bit.

Wow, no thank you!! I have seen how hard and efficient the caterers work so I can't imagine doing that on my own.

I think he'd rock a bow tie, what color pants/bowtie do yall suggest?

Maybe khaki pants, white shirt, and a red bow-tie?

I second the gray pants, bowtie, and suspenders deal. I really like that you are embracing the BBQ theme with the red checkered thing. I think it looks great! And I am so happy you are not self catering! So many people come on here with the "laid back self catered wedding" thing, which is an absolute oxymoron.

I love the inspiration pics and theme, but as a Wyoming fan, I would have to say no to the red/Huskers lol. But I'm sure he will rock it Smiley smile
