Beautiful nh Courthouses, City Halls, and Elopement Destinations

Kari, on April 4, 2020 at 2:59 PM Posted in New Hampshire Planning 0 5

We currently have a May 30th wedding planned and are concerned about Covid-19. We do not yet have a Plan B, as we are waiting until a little later in the month to make a decision and hoping we'll have better information then. While we'd love to be able to have the wedding we planned, we are uncertain about just pushing back the date without knowing when things will actually be able to return to normal.

One of the options we have considered is doing a private legal ceremony either at a beautiful outdoor spot or in a courthouse or city hall and then having a more casual party later, possibly years from now, after things settle down. If we go this route, we'd really like to find a beautiful location, as there will be a lot of people we love who won't be there, and we'd like to have a photographer present and have incredible photos we can share with our loved ones.

Is anyone familiar with towns with courthouses or city halls in the state that have beautiful architectural features and would make for a gorgeous setting for wedding photos? Our city hall is just an ugly old brick building with a bunch of beige rooms inside, and I've never been inside the county courthouse and have no idea what it looks like. Alternatively are there any great outdoor venues you would recommend?

Outdoor options could be parks. I'm sure a small town park would "allow" you to use the space. Lots of town halls have gazebos. Depending on your style you could always find something based on that. If you like country there are always lots of old barns that would look beautiful in pics. I think a lot depends on your area of the state. Or if willing to travel. Will your officiant travel?

    Hi Kari,

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with NH. Here's a link to Park & Outdoor Wedding Venues in NH on WeddingWire. There are 10 results, so maybe one of those would work.

Here's another discussion with May brides: May 2020 wedding + covid .

It can be stressful to think about postponing your May wedding on top of planning your big day. Luckily, there are many resources on our website that may be helpful as you navigate the pandemic planning process. I'm wishing you the best of luck! Smiley heart

Yes, I'm asking for specific recommendations - specific parks, buildings, etc. I'm familiar with what my town has to offer and we would travel within state but would probably prefer to stay in our part of the state (Cheshire, Sullivan, Merrimack, Hillsborough counties preferred) as we are uncertain what travel will be allowed at that time, since the situation changes from day-to-day and week-to-week. Plus our photographer and friend who was going to officiate are local to a similar area (our actual wedding venue is probably the midway point between the three of us) and I'd prefer to limit travel for everyone as much as possible. Our friend is the major of the town we live in so we are pretty confident we could swing something in our town if we had to, but if we'e going to elope I'd love to take advantage of being able to use a super scenic spot that we couldn't use with a larger group. We definitely want to stay in New Hampshire. If you have any specific recommendations I'd love to hear them!

Whites Park in Concord has a nice little pond and an arch like bridge over the pond (not sure on exact location but in that area). Depending on "hiking" more like walking into the woods Pulpit Rock in Bedford. It's outside of the area you prefer but there are lots of gorgeous shots/sites around Winnepesauke or even the Kanc. I wonder if even some local apple orchard or vineyards might be willing to just let you use there space for the short amount of time? Might be worth calling around. The grounds aren't being used anyways I would assume. Have you checked out the NH state parks website to see if state parks are open currently? I know that's subject to change almost daily.... the unknown sucks so bad...

We’re changing our plans due to corona too and we’re most likely going with Fulchino vineyard in Hollis nh! He said he can do an outdoor ceremony and all outdoor seating if you want a small reception! Ours is schedule for June 12!
