Our beauty services company canceled us 10 days before the wedding. And an hour before the practice session! And refused to refund our $1700!

OMG that's awful! I'm so sorry that happened! I would definitely warn other brides about that situation, and start a claim for court. Do you have other options for another HMU person? I hope you find someone fast!

I would definitely consult a lawyer. If they cancelled on you for no reason, they need to refund your deposit.

I've become a little informed about the small claims court which is possible without hiring a lawyer. This may be an option to reclaim the deposit or payment. The process depends on evidence such as contracts, checks or credit card receipts, emails, affidavits. Even without a contract, the court can make decisions based on equity -- what you paid vs what the makeup artist provided. There could also be compensation based on the harm of their cancellation.

Start calling immediately to other beauty vendors in the area for a backup. After the wedding, get in touch with your state attorney general, which it is their job to go after businesses such as that.
