Bed Bath & Beyond Registry Vent

We went to create our registry at Bed Bath and Beyond today and had a somewhat terrible experience. The lady followed us around and gave us no time to browse for some items we would want. She held the scanner the entire time which was frustrating since FH and I heard how much fun it was to go around and scan all the items. When we would pick cheaper items (like silverware) she would tell us how horrible the $80 set was and insist we add the $199 set. Was anyone else's experience like this? This was the first place we went so I am not sure if I just had unrealistic expectations for how it would go.

YESSS! She tired telling me I needed over 300 items and made snarky comments when we only added 70 items. Every time I said this is too expensive to ask someone to buy she would say who cares, get the expensive stuff now and make others pay for it. I was appalled by her ridiculously rude comments.

We did one at Target and they just gave us the scanner and let us roam. If you download the target registry app and link it with your registry, you can just walk around and scan stuff with the camera on your phone. I do that sometimes when I'm just wandering around the store and stumble across something that we didn't already have on there.

I like to look at stuff in stores too. If they pull that "help" with me and FH we'll walk out

That sounds amazing and much more like what we were thinking we were getting into with BB&B. Thanks for the input, definitely going to target!

If you’re looking for other options, you can download the target registry app and go in and scan things on your own. It’s the private browsing, but it’s not online so you can look at the things you want!

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! Our experience with BB&B wasn't like that, our consultant helped us pick out our place settings, and then let us roam with the scanner. She found us every 15 minutes or so to see if we needed help and gave some suggestions, but I didn't feel she was rude or annoying. We definitely didn't add as many items as she advised us to, so I was kind of glad she wasn't around to comment on that when we went to return the scanner, but overall it was fine.

We registered at Target as well and like other people said, they just hand you the scanner and let you do your own thing.

Wow. So glad we did not decide to go with BB&B. You should Pinterest the list of best registries! We went with Crate and Barrel because I read about all the perks of it on Pinterest. They hold weekly private events for couples just to wander and register while the store is closed to the public. They have brand representatives there so you can ask questions. We got to hold all of the different knives and pick out the ones we liked best. You just use the scanner in the app to add them to your registry. We had a great time!!

I've heard the sane thing from a few people I know about BB&B specifically. I would cancel my registry with them and go elsewhere or

This is the exact OPPOSITE of our experience with BB&B! FH and I went in and the woman went over how to work the scanner and gave us a list of things to register for and asked if we wanted her to walk with us. We declined because I had done most of my research and knew what we were looking for. She told us no problem and said that if we had any questions or changed our mind about her walking with us to just come back and she’s be happy to help. We had a few questions and she gave us honest answers about the products and did NOT always pick the more expensive option. I’m so sorry you had such a terrible experience!

Oh man, we have an appointment on Saturday to go register there! I sure hope it's not like that for us, all of our friends that registered there made it online themselves so they didn't have the in person experience. I kind of wish they did just so we could ask how it went. If it is like that I guess I'll just have to tell them I heard about horrible experiences like this and nevermind, we'll be going elsewhere.

Does anyone know if you have to make an appointment at Target? Or can you just drop in and do it? Because there's a Target in the same shopping center so maybe we'll just go there if BBB gets bad. We also plan on registering at a department store that has great perks for registering with them, so it's not like we need BBB.

We went there for our registry and it was fine. The guy was with us the whole time and scanned everything for us but gave us the option of scanning if we wanted. He was mostly there for suggestions and to answer questions we had. He didn't force us to register for anything we didn't want.

So our girls at BB&B started like that and we only got to one item - pots and pans - and my fiancé said ‘do you mind if we just go through this the two of us?’ And she left us alone! Thank god! I would appreciate the help if we were completely clueless, but we weren’t. I think maybe next time try saying like ‘thanks for your help, i think we can take it from here’

I avoided registering at BBB for this reason. I heard so many stories about the associate following you and telling you what to register for that I just didn’t even bother. I registered online at wayfair instead.

My experience was completely different. When we went, the girl showed us how to do it and she offered to walk around with us too. I told her we would walk around by ourselves and find her if we had a question, which we did. She was fine with it and she left us alone except when we asked for her help.
