Ok, I need some help here! My fiancé and I have decided to serve beer and wine at our wedding and providing signature cocktails during cocktail hour. My cousin got married about 5 years ago and people got so drunk at her wedding and it turned into a classless babysitting event. Our venue is a very classy venue and I don't want anyone acting stupid. How do we make sure people aren't going to get drunk and out of control? Help!

People will get drunk on whatever you have available. A 5oz glass of wine or a 12oz beer is equilivant in alcohol content as a 1.5oz shot of liqour. By doing beer and wine you arent helping you drunk guests situation any exept for reducing your bar tab.

Hire a bartender, he/she will flag people as they see fit.

Bar tenders won't cut people off just because they come up to the bar a lot, but they will based on behavioral cues. A certified a trained bar tender will be well trained on when to cut someone off. But this doesn't mean people won't get drunk. Make sure to talk to your venue if you're worried about it.

I think, it depends upon the wedding planning people who are going to organize the reception event. whether to use the alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks in the wedding reception.

We are also having open beer and wine. My brother had the same at his wedding last year and everyone behaved themselves.

If you see things getting a little crazy cut it off. Just go to the bartender and tell them no more.
