"Before we say 'I Do' BBQ - Suggestions Needed!

Annie & Javi, on April 14, 2014 at 7:41 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

So originally my FH and I had the intentions of having an Halloween theme e-party (we're the couple who has our wedding all planned and paid for and our immediate families know about our 'engagement', I just don't have a ring yet), however we've been discussing having something much more laid back and thought an BBQ would be more fun.

His parents have a large yard with a built in pool, we've discussed buying a 10'x20' white wall tent, we'll serve hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, potato and macaroni salad, corn on the cob, fried chicken, mac n' cheese, fresh fruit salad, a mixed spring salad, and pork n' beans. We'll have spiked punches, lemonades and beer. Also thinking of lawn games although I'm not too familiar with any other than corn hole and horse shoes? I don't want volleyball because I can just see that being a disaster with kids.

Anyone have suggestions on food and games?

ETA: Dessert list added in the string of comments.

I like the idea of a more casual BBQ and all these ideas sound super fun! We did a brunch and it was a great time. Just try to make sure that someone else is throwing it for you so that y'all aren't hosting a party for yourselves haha

Your menu looks perfect except for one thing...what about dessert? Definitely need to get some desserts going there...

Lawn golf is a ton of fun, and kids can play it too. You can get it at Target for around $25 or even make it yourself.

Oh, duh, I totally forgot to mention the desserts! We're planning peach cobbler, apple pie, blueberry pie, original cheese cake, banana cheese cake and a large assortment of cookies.

No ribs? No brisket? In Texas there is no BBQ without them. lol Everything else sounds good though.

I like the idea of corn hole and maybe bocce and croquet. I wouldn't do Frisbee, though - I can see lots of potential safety issues in any game where people drink and then throw stuff for distance.

You could do some fun events as well, depending on how much space you have. It could be a field day type thing - sack races, egg and spoon races, etc.

Careful with the spiked punch, the kids may drink it thinking it is juice

Maybe let the guest add their own alcohol to the punch or have a kids drink station and tell the kids not to drink from the adult station

Otherwise everything sound yummy loving the pulled pork with fresh buns

Pool party also needs a water balloon fight
