best and worst bridesmaids gifts you've received!?

Sarah, on July 13, 2013 at 10:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

Ok ladies so do tell. What are some of the best and the worst bridesmaids gifts you have received? I've been a bridesmaid twice. I have gotten a decorated pair of flip flops for one and for the other I got a necklace. I liked the necklace more. My friend got a lip waxing kit from her passive-agressive sister. LOL! I am thinking about doing a little bag of goodies, including nail polish, personalized diy hangers, tweezers, some.makeup, other little things and a spa gift card to get a massage the day before the wedding... I just gotsa make sure I can afford it without any issues with fh. So, what is the best and worst you have gotten and what do ya wanna give yours!?

    Best:

Pearl earrings (twice) J. Furmani Crystal Clutch and perfume (3 times) silver monogrammed compact

    Worst:

Monogrammed plastic water bottle (bride spent $100k for her wedding) mints (I think she was trying to give us a hint)

Best: clutch filled with goodies including lip gloss, pan era gift card, and other goodies.

Worst: cheap jewelry that I wore only to the wedding and never again.

We received a beautiful pearl necklace, pearl earrings, and a beautiful sash for the wedding I was in yesterday. And she was the most calm and chill bride when it came to the wedding day itself.

I can't say I've ever gotten anything I've disliked. I use to tote bag from one wedding I was in daily as my gym bag, I wear all the flip flops I've ever gotten. One bride made us all tile coasters that matched our homes and they are on the coffee table as I speak. But I would say my favorite was a pair of gold/amber Swavorski earrings. They are gorgeous!

The worsts have been anything with my name/initial/monogram/date or anything inscribed or written on it.

The best have been things like spa vouchers, books, Starbucks card

Agree with Mallory, I don't like monogrammed stuff. I won't use it, I don't like random people knowing my name or initials, it's weird to me.

I really haven't LOVED the few BM gifts I've gotten, I prefer useful things. I got a day of kit that had mostly items I wasn't going to, didn't and still haven't used. It was a nice thought.

Contrary to what many others might say, I'd appreciate anything that saved me money, so if you bought me my dress so I can spend my money on something *I* want, that'd be fine by me.

I agree that not all weddings give BM gifts - I have been MOH 3 times and have had 3 very different experiences:

    1. I was MOH in my cousin's wedding and didn't receive anything (except for the keychain wedding favour that all guests got). TBH, I didn't really know that people gave BP gifts at that time so I wasnt really disappointed. In fact, I was surprised to be in the BP at all, nevermind MOH as we actually aren't that close.

    2. At my sister's wedding, she gave all of the bmaids a keychain that was engraved with her and her hubby's name and date (same for me and the bmaids).

    3. And then for my best friend's wedding, her mom paid for my MOH dress, and then my friend gave me and her 2 BMs a set of earrings and necklace that matched the dress. She also gave me a photo album with a bunch of her wedding photos after the wedding.

So #3 was definitely the best, but I had three extremely different experiences!

I didn't realize that getting gifts could be a bad thing. Tacky post.

I was actually enjoying reading the comments. It's nice to get an idea of what maybe not to spend money on when it comes the BM gifts.

I'm loving the clutch idea with goodies inside.

I've never been a BM except in my mom's wedding and she didn't give gifts.

I have never gotten a gift and honestly have never cared that I didn't. I was just happy for my friend/relative Smiley smile

I'm sorry Sarah, I get that this is supposed to be a light-hearted thread, but it actually seems a bit disrespectful to hear former BM's complain about gifts. TooManyMistys said it best, "I have never gotten a gift and honestly have never cared that I didn't. I was just happy for my friend/relative".

I guess if we can't afford to buy our girls pearls, clutches w/ goodies and spa vouchers we should just not even bother or else we can look forward to being talked about behind our backs.

I hope those dissatisfied with there gifts at least were able to appreciate the experience. Remember, being a part of someone's wedding isn't a right, it's a privilege.

Ok, lets not turn this into a big thing. Asking for advice on your least favorite/favorite gift can clue you in to what people honestly like to receive. I'm sure the posters who didnt like the gifts they received still smiled and said thank you.

I've only been in one wedding but I got a pearl necklace. I lost it when moving & actually wish I still had it.

I love this thread. just wish it happened sooner. Getting married Saturday. I do need to get a few more small items for my BM. The gift card idea is great. she loves Starbucks so I'll do that.

I've never been in a wedding party so I don't have any input there.

I'm going to second DlovesD. I've gotten gifts that weren't my favorite, but I was polite and have enjoyed them. I appreciate hearing what others like, as I'm finding it helpful to come up with my own BM gifts.

Don't make this into a big deal.

I don't think Sarah meant anything rude by the thread, just another way to get feedback on what people like to receive.

Best gift -- I went to the spa with my sister the day before her wedding and she bought me a 1 hour massage. Not in everyone's price range, I know, but seriously... best gift ever.

I don't think I've ever gotten anything that I really disliked, I guess my least favorite was jewelry for the wedding that just wasn't my taste at all. Nothing really wrong with it, it was just not something I would ever wear on my own.
