Best bang for your buck type of real flower?

T & Co, on May 27, 2013 at 7:20 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

Hi guys, before I go meet with a florist I was curious about some alternatives. My wedding is in March in Canada, I am thinking of two bouquets and then decor using real fresh flowers. My favorite flower combination is roses and orchids but orchids seem to skyrocket the price of the bouquet. I am open to suggestions as I don't know every flower type. But what is the general ranking of cost for these flowers from 1-5? 5 being most expensive. Thanks WW babes.

Roses

Orchids

Lilies

Hydrangeas

Peonies

This is just a thought-but you can put just one or two blooms in a vase with water & marbles. It'll save money and you can still get the flowers. Sorry I didn't actually answer your question--I don't know flower prices! But you need less blooms with hydrangeas because they're so large.

What about wildflowers? They tend to be cheaper and can be really beautiful. I realize March in Canada means there won't be much in the way of local flowers, but you could always ask a florist about what might be more affordable for you.

I do think all the flowers you like are gorgeous! It depends on your budget whether you can afford all of those or if you need to maybe pick one or two and then add in other less expensive flowers...OR find other flowers you love just as much!

Thanks may, i will likely do that for the cocktail tables.

Ha the interesting thing about dahlias is that it symbolizes betrayal. Seriously why would someone associate dark meanings with flowers?!

Oh I am checking wild flowers but I guess the term encompasses many variations, some do look nicer than others but they do seem like a smaller flower.

Garden Roses are larger and can look like peonies but are less expensive. Hydrangeas might be more expensive than roses but one stem takes up alot of space.

Gerber daisies (my whole bridal party will have daisies) pansies. Talk to your florist about the overall look that you want and how to do it. My bouquet will be hydrangeas and daisies (I got lucky in that the main flower we are using is a relatively inexpensive one) with wildflowers and a few others to give it a more wild, free-form shape. There will also be ivy woven in and out of the blooms.

Rannaculus(sp?) is a great alternative to the peony. I really like some of the new carnations they have recently come out with. They are very inexpensive and don't look like "carnations". The best advice I have is find a floral designer you mesh well with. They should be able to recommend different flowers that give a similar look at different price ranges. I love my floral designer! She and I have worked a lot together and I think my flowers will be very unique and are not all that expensive imo.

Ranunculus are the peony alternative that Erin I. is talking about. My daughter-in-law had them at her and my son's wedding. Their wedding planners got them from one of the wholesale flower growers, and arranged them themselves, to save on cost.

Wow I think for most non flower knowledgeable folks ranunculus looks like a rosé. Cool thank you ladies, and I will be interested to hear what the costs of hydrangeas are in my area. Cheers!
