Best beer and wine to please everyone

mimitrue, on September 21, 2015 at 10:52 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

So we are bringing our alcohol to the venue and Im having a hard time picking beers and wines that will make everyone happy. Any suggestions on crowd pleasing beers and wines?

A chardonnay and a cab are pretty safe for wine.

Bud light and Yuengling is pretty safe for beer

Bud light or Miller Light for beer is definitely safe. I am not a wine drinker, so can't offer much there.

I would do a Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay for a white wine and a Cab or Merlot for Red. Agree with the others on Bud Light or maybe a

    Corona.

Depends on your crowd. I am doing a Pinot Grigio and a Cab Sauv. Corona and a local red ale for my alcohol. Corona will cover my Brazilian contingent (seriously that's what all of them bring to parties) and the local ale will cover my beer snobs (when I drink beer I am a beer snob).

It really depends on your crowd. I would never offer anything -light because I hate it and everybody I know knows I hate it. But it seems to be a crowd pleaser since it's easy to drink and doesn't taste of much.

Your profile says that you're in San Diego (sorry for stalking Smiley smile ). If you want to stay local, there are tons of beer around there. Maybe a Longfin Lager from Ballast Point? Lager are generally what Bud etc are, but the ones from Craft Brewery have some taste. They won't be too exotic, so most people will still like it.

I would would do a light beer like Shocktop or Blue Moon and then something darker like...well I don't drink dark beer so I don't have a suggestion, ha. I would be the guest who would love for you to provide a cider because I can't drink beer, that's always an option.

I would say one red and one white for wine... I like the suggestions about: Pinot Grigio and A merlot or Cab for red.

For beer, depends on your crowd. Bud or Miller is great for people who like domestic. I have a lot of craft drinkers and it was only $100 more for a craft beer so we got Surly Furious. A Sam Adam's or Summit EPA are also good beers with a mild taste that are more "crafty".

Dos XX is a better quality beer for roughly the same price as Corona. For the wines, the ladies made good recommendations.

Depends on your guests taste--as a person who loves beer and wine, I HATE bud & coors light and prefer craft beers or something with a little more flavor. With wine, I think offering a red (like merlot) is a safe bet, along with a sweet and dry white wine (chardonnay and Riesling) would please most.

We are craft beer drinker and so was most of our guests. We served Magic Hat #9, Stella Artois and Amstel Light with 2 30 packs of canned Miller Light. The Stella completely sold out and no one drank Miller Light. Everyone loved the selection though. For wine, we had a Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, and a Reisling.

If you have access to it Yuengling is always a crowd favorite, or at least it is in our family and circle of friends. I really wish it was available where we live.

These lyrics from Rick Nelson's "Garden Party" immediately come to mind: "But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well. You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself."

Just look at the various and varied responses to your thread already - you're not going to please everyone, so why not get the beverages that you would enjoy? Chances are plenty of people will too.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. We are craft beer drinkers so we will have at least 1 keg of a good craft beer, maybe 2. Im not a wine drinker so I needed those recommendations so thank you! Now something for the in betweeners who like the domestic I suppose? So a keg of something light and domestic then. Free alcohol is free alcohol right? haha...

For the wine, it also depends when your wedding is. If it will be hot, people will likely drink more white. I second Pinot Grigio, it's not too sweet. I'm obsessed right now with Vinho Verde which is a Portuguese wine that has a tiny bit of bubbles (it's not considered a sparkling wine though). Chardonnay can be good, but almost too sweet for some people.

Do you have a Bevmo or something like that near you? Our local one does tastings of different wines on Friday and Saturdays and they can help you decide as well.

If you're in San Diego and want a craft beer, Stone is really good. Here are their year-round selections: http://www.stonebrewing.com/beers/#year-round

Probably also good to have some common, popular light beers such as Coors Light or Corona.

As for wine, since you are in CA, you'll be able to get a really good Merlot or Zinfandel. I'd recommend either/both of those for your red. For white, good crowd pleasers are Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay. I'd recommend choosing one non-oaked (Sauv. Blanc or Pinot Grigio) and a lightly oaked Chardonnay.

I'd do a 'regular', light and a craft beer or two

A Cabernet or Pinot Noir for red, Pinot Grigio for white, and I'd add a rose or a pink moscato; very popular right now. If you add Sangria base to the mix, you'll have a cute sig drink too.
