Best Makeup For Oily, Large Pores, and now AGING Skin??!!

Randi, on May 31, 2017 at 12:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hi All!

I've been using Bare Minerals matte loose powder for YEARS. (Prior to that, I always used liquid foundation because I had no idea anything else existed. Liquid foundation always looked greasy & felt gross... even the "for oily skin" formulas)

Now I find that the powder foundation seems to accentuate that my face is aging. It settles in my lines & makes certain parts of my face look "saggier"?? (Not quite sure how to properly explain that..)

Anyway, I STILL have oily skin at 40, so I look super-shiny if I try to wear nothing...

Is there ANY product (foundation-type product is my main question.... but if any of y'all have similar skin issues & have discovered a "swear by" product that helps these issues, I'd love to hear about those as well!!)

Thanks for any input / advice y'all have. (I always imagined that I'd age gracefully.. my face is NOT aging gracefully though! I need to reign it in)

Smiley winking

My skin is super oily and probably will be forever (thanks genetics). I've found that Make Up Forever HD collection is great, it is a liquid primer but it does hide pores well, and their microfinishing loose powder keeps my skin looking fresh all day. Givenchy mattifying primer is a godsend, and I've recently tried Garnier's micellar water for oily skin and I've noticed a big difference in how oily my skin is throughout the day.

You need a good primer and good setting spray

    Awesome info, thanks!!

I keep seeing micellar water this & that, but I assumed it was another gimmick.

    Thanks!

@Randi I figured it was the new kale of skin care, but so far I'm pretty happy with it and it doesn't cost much more than toner! I'll also say I have pretty sensitive skin, both for acne and red blotches, and all of the products I mentioned are gently IME.

I've tried smashbox primer (and other brands, but don't recall which)

I didn't notice much of a difference with vs without.

Is that typically a good brand?

Never used a setting spray.... what do y'all recommend there?

I really like younique, I use the liquid touch which is like a liquid to powder.

Just bought a mattifying primer, oil control finishing spray, micellar water for oily skin...and my normal bare minerals powder Smiley sad

I saw the Tarte Amazonian clay foundation, but it has sunscreen in it, and I have yet to find a sunscreen that doesn't irritate my eyes like CRAZY..... even it's not right up by my eyes! (So weird... I wear it anyway at the beach, but I can't handle red, weepy eyes all day, every day.)

    Thanks for the tips!

(I was at Ulta...didn't see Makeup Forever. Where is that sold?)

Glamglow supermud facemask. It's super gross and super compelling at the same time, you can literally see the dots on the mask where your blackheads are being sucked out. Kinda like popping a pimple.

I have pretty oily skin too, so i tend to use a matte liquid foundation (I really like loreal promatte. If you like high end products, my friend swears by Dior) and then set/bake w Ben Nye banana powder which helps prevents creasing.

It's expensive, but I would try Bye Bye Foundation by IT Cosmetics. It did wonders for my skin. I have dry skin, but my friend has oily and it worked for both of us.

I've struggled with oily skin for as long as I can remember. One day, I read an article about dehydrated skin & figured I'd take a few of their tips. I seriously feel that it totally helped me out. I hydrate my face before applying makeup, then go in with a mattifying primer & I swear by the MakeUp ForEver mat velvet+ foundation! Also, I recently started getting HydraFacials & I've seen a huge improvement in my skin. All of the scaring is almost invisible, my pores have shrunk, I'm not as oily & my blackheads are going away. I'd suggest to go to a dermatologist or see an esthetician. Definitely work on your skincare because if your base is nice, you can put any primer & foundation on & it'll work. Good luck!

I think makeup forever is a sephora-specific brand, that's where I've bought it. It's expensive up front but lasts forever!

I have huge pocket pores on my cheeks and ridiculously oily skin and acne scarring. I really love Tarte's Rainforest of the Sea foundation. It's liquid but dries matte and still almost full coverage. I use their basic mattifying primer first and their translucent powder to set. I swear by the combo. Light feeling, but great coverage, doesn't break me out, long lasting and minimizes my pores.

Motives has a custom blend foundation that you can add oil control to. You'd have to find a local Motives MUA but I highly recommend it, the foundation feels like a second skin! Their primer and setting spray is awesome too. Custom is the way to go!

I'm not sure what your skincare routine is, but make sure you are taking care of your skin too and not just using makeup for oily skin. I have normal/combo skin but get SUPER oily on my forehead and cheeks, especially in the summer. I cleanse my face with a Michael Todd cleansing brush ($89 at Ulta, but cheaper than Clarisonic and you only have to replace heads every 6 months) with BareMinerals skincare (it's 3:30am, don't remember what they are all called but they're great) and then prime my face. The Smashbox primer water is AMAZING. I was nervous to try it because it's "dewy" (kinda not really though cause once it sinks into pores you can't tell). I use a pore minimizing primer in areas where my pores are large like my nose underneath the primer water. I've been trying different foundations lately so I don't have a great recommendation but I have been loving the It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact Serum foundation which sounds weird because it looks and feels quite heavy when you first apply, but after it is blended out it feels weightless, at least on my skin. I DO NOT use the brush they recommend with it. I use a different It brush, one that is a little less dense and more flexible. Then I set it with my No. 7 loose powder. I also really love the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation. I prefer to apply that with a beauty sponge and then set with the same powder, but it doesn't really have to be set. I also use the primer water as a setting spray after using powder and it is AMAZING!!!! Again, when you first put it on it looks shiny but once it settles and dries in it looks great and not dewy. There are Matte formulas for setting spray though, I think Urban Decay makes one and NYX makes a nice one that is budget friendly.

Always make sure your brushes, sponges, other applicators are CLEAN and if you use your fingers during any part of your routine make sure your hands are clean too!

    Good luck!
