Best paper type for invites?

Jessilyn, on October 9, 2020 at 3:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
I’m pretty confused about all the different paper types, I’ve never ordered invitations or anything like that before. I’d rather stick to the standard to save money (matte), but I want my invitations to look as nice as possible. I’ll attach a pic of the design we’re using because I know that plays into which type of paper would be best. Thanks!Best paper type for invites? 1

Most are done on heavy cardstock.

Hi Jessilyn! Zazzle actually has a pretty good breakdown of the different paper types you can check out here:

Matte sounds like it would be a good choice and is the most popular selection!

We got our invites through Zazzle. Before ordering all of them, I did a small order that was a sample our invites with different papers/print options. Specifically I tried whatever the default is (I think it's a paper with a slight sheen), the matte paper option (I think slightly more expensive, but minimally so), and then the matte paper option with the crisp higher res printing (more expensive than regular printing). We liked the matte option, regular printing, as we couldn't really notice the difference between the printer types and didn't think it would matter to guests (I'm super nit picky and visual, so if it didn't bother me, none of our guests were going to notice).

Personally, I think the matte paper looks best for watercolor style invites, like the design you picked out (our design was actually pretty similar).

If you are confused about choices, I'd recommend just ordering a few singles printed on different paper types and then compare them and pick whatever you like best. It's maybe $10 or so to do that and well worth it. I got a Zazzle Black subscription for the year for free shipping too, which is worth if it you do multiple print orders, such as for STDs, Invites, Place Cards, Menus, Thank You Cards, etc and then you don't feel forced to order everything at once and can just do small orders as you need things.
