Best Rewards Card for Wedding Purchases

RhnCasi419, on December 28, 2014 at 11:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Anybody know of some good reward credit cards? My FH and I were discussing this morning that a co-worker of his paid for his entire, or most of his wedding ($14,000) on his credit card and got a crazy amount of rewards/if I heard right, cash rewards. And he is asking me to ask wedding wire. He could ask his co-worker too, but for whatever reason, he is curious what WW had to say about which credit cards were the best for rewards for the types of services we are paying for planning our wedding. I told him a lot of factors are involved. For ex, his co-worker's venue is at a large hotel that accepts ccs. Our venue is a historical society venue that didn't accept ccs. Same with dj doesn't accept ccs. However, upcoming expenses will accept ccs like florists, purchasing invites. Bakeries. Anyone know the top cards out there for best rewards? I hope I am allowed to ask this question. ??

I wish I did this. After my wedding, because of some threads here, I decided to get a Capital One Venture Card. If you spent $3k on it in three months, they gave you 40,000 extra miles on top of the 2 miles/$ earned. I use that card for everything - and I pay it off every two weeks. Since July, when I got it, I've earned almost $700 in travel. I just wish I did this sooner - I paid cash for everything for the wedding and lost out on travel points.

We're using the Capital One QuickSilver. You get 1.5% cash back on ALL purchases. Unlike most cards that rotate every 3 months (gas, groceries, entertainment), this card gives you an automatic 1.5% cash back. We've only had the card for 3 months and have recieved about $150 cashback. It can be used to pay off credit card balance, sent back as a check to you or donated to a charity of your choice. The good thing is you also don't need to just pay wedding stuff with it. We use it to pay cable, phone, energy, groceries, etc. You basically get money back for things you're already purchasing. Only thing, MAKE SURE TO PAY OFF EVERY MONTH! You don't want to get stuck with 15-30% interest (depending on your credit score) on thousands of dollars because then it won't be worth the cash back.

My parents are paying for 99% of the wedding but we got a Discover card to pay for the rest of the expenses and our honeymoon. I get 1% cash back on everything. There is a year no interest. Plus I have great credit so my interest rate is only 12.5% after the year is over!

Like edkeller33, we have the Capital One QuickSilver. We got it over the summer and currently using it to pay household expenses. We have received almost $700 back. Once we start booking, we'll use it to pay our vendors. Agree with edkeller33, pay it all off when due. Before if you can.

We have the Chase Sapphire card. We researched for quite a while before applying for it. Look into The Rewards Guy. He has a multitude of credits cards and tells you how to maximize your points with as little as you possibly can. He does this for a living I'll see if I can find his link on my phone.

Here's the link to his beginners guide. He has a section towards the bottom that will show you which card he recommends for what your lifestyle is like, as well as for what you want to use your points towards.

We got the Southwest Airlines credit card so our honeymoon flights to Jamaica would be free! If you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months, you get 25,000 points then it's 1 point for every $1 you spend or 2 points for every $1 if it's a Southwest partner (hotel, rental car, etc). We put everything on the card and then pay it off as soon as the purchase hits so we never carry a balance and won't have to pay interest.

We got the Starwood AmEx specifically because of the wedding. FH did a lot of research before choosing that one. The card correlates to a lot of travel rewards, and we travel often, as all of our family is in a different state.

We also make sure to pay it off each month, so as not to pay interest.

I have had a discover card for many years now and I love it. I get 1% cash back on all purchases then rotating 5% cash back. This past quarter it was 5% cash back on online purchases so I made a lot of wedding purchases online. I like it because I can redeem the cash back for straight cash, $1 is $1 or I can redeem for gift cards and get even more for my cash back, $25 gift card for $20 cashback. I usually redeem for gift cards to stores that I am planning to buy something at anyway.

My fh just got a new chase sapphire card. It was the best option for him with what he purchases.

Most of our vendors required us to pay by check actually. But I would recommend a joint credit card and a joint account just for wedding expenses, if you don't already have one.
