Best type of pen/ink for addressing invites?

CoffeeNColor, on April 9, 2017 at 2:23 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 21

I'm going to hand-address my invitations. I bought a template on etsy for keeping the lines straight. For the people who hand addressed envelopes, what type of pen did you use? Ball point? Gel roller?

Any other office supply junkies here? Smiley laugh

I used a permanent marker. They were big envelopes so I wanted a thicker pen so the addresses to fill the space.

    Sharpie Pen, medium tip.

They didn't bleed at all, even with thin VistaPrint envelopes.

I wish I had the patience to address all my invites by hand. I used a fancy calligraphy style font and ran them through the printer. I got many compliments on them.

I used a Calligraphy marker from Michael's. I didn't actually write calligraphy style (not that talented) but it just made the writing look nicer.

I just used my printer at home for our envelopes. I hand wrote our 125 Std's and major cramping.

I haven't addressed our invites yet - hello, weekend plan - but for our STDs, I used an extra fine calligraphy pen from Michael's.

Fountain pen! You can get an inexpensive one to try at Staples or any other office supply store

I bought the lettermate off of etsy as well and it worked perfectly to keep the lines straight. I used a gel pen I already owned. If your envelopes have a matte finish then you can really use anything. If they have any shimmer at all then you can't use gel. I would do a test run to make sure it doesn't smear. My parents invitation was our "guinea pig" invite.

Thanks for the responses and for reviving this thread!

For people who used a calligraphy pen and used regular print or script (rather than true calligraphy), do you have pics for examples? I'm having trouble picturing the outcome.

@Chelsea - What jelly rolls did you get? I need a good gold one that fits in the Cricut and I haven't been able to find any yet. What font did you use to write these with the Cricut as well?

@jessica I purchased an adapter from KidSharpProductions on etsy and then got the gelly roll brand pens. ETA The font is signature script fonts-ginger

I learned calligraphy (or tried to) from websites and templates online. I used a Tombow brush pen.

Hello! If I may ask, how did you go about running your invitations through a printer? That sounds like a great idea, and I am considering it, but I am just a bit unsure on how that would work. Thanks in advance!
