Best wedding you've been to?

SHINY OBJECTS, on February 2, 2017 at 11:00 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

Another post got me thinking-what's the best wedding reception you've been to (other than your own) and why? Or what was something interesting or memorable from someone's wedding?

I'll go first-a friend got married at a major league ballpark. It was a semi-formal affair, but they had mini hot dogs and nachos for the appetizers (but with fancy toppings. I promise it worked in the setting and they still had a formal dinner) and the escort cards were printed on tickets from the stadium, so I was seated at table 108, etc. They even did a 7th inning stretch during a Dj break! It worked really well for the venue.

Another memorable one is my cousin had a doughnut truck at the end of the night. That was awesome. I totally wish I could do that.

I actually can't remember the best because 95% of them include delicious apps, climate control, a full open bar, a delicious meal, entertainment, and an opportunity to socialize with people I adore. I can tell you the worst one I've been to; it was a very expensive to attend (over $1K after factoring in a tux, travel, tolls, gas, a gift, and two hotel rooms) wedding featuring one bottle of wine on each table (for eight people) and a cash bar -- courtesy of a pair of senior citizen, second wedding millionaires (who often bragged, "We've visited six of seven continents -- twice" and enjoyed showing us a $900 basket they purchased on their honeymoon. Yes, a centerpiece sized basket). Oh, and there was no DJ. It sucked.

The best wedding I've been too was my first wedding as an adult. She had an partial open bar (it worked though) yummy apps, the most delicious chicken I've ever had, and the best DJ. We danced all night long. She didn't have a photo booth, or any other extras, but the DJ really made the night

@centerpiece-that sounds awful. The second one, I mean. The rest sound pretty nice. Smiley smile

@signed-further proof that entertainment is really important!

I have been to some lovely, nicely-done weddings, but the ones I remember most fondly are the ones I was able to help with in some way. And the one in a blizzard where they changed the reception from its original venue to the lobby of the hotel where guests were staying. Surprisingly fun!

The best wedding I went to was the best because I loved the people getting married! Didn't care about the food or music or anything else. I was so happy to be part of my dear friends' special day.

The best wedding I have been to was a crab feast with an ice cream truck at a gorgeous venue with an ocean view.

Best was a wedding in Chico on the hottest day ever. Food wasn't great. No air condition and only had beer and wine but the love made it amazing. One of my favorite days. In the long run to me non of the other stuff matters.

For me, it's all about the people getting married and the personal touches. My best friend (male) got married a few years ago to another man pretty soon after gay marriage became legal in Massachusetts and it was so meaningful. I don't remember the food or decorations or anything like that but they are an awesome couple and it was such a happy atmosphere. On the flip side, a couple of my friends have married guys I have not been very fond of and their weddings feel boring and cookie cutter to me. Another awesome wedding involved a friend of mine who married a rocket scientist and his friends shot off rockets on the beach and they had a rocket shaped cake!!

The best wedding I went to was my best friend's camp ground wedding. There was a reception hall for dancing, eating, and drinking but the ceremony was outside on a hill by the lake. The couple is really earthy and hippieish so there was definitely that vibe with the music and decor (the bride came out to all you need is love) There were some outdoor games, which I know people on here absolutely hate, but people were playing them. Afterwards there was a bonfire and a lot of people camped out. The whole wedding just fit the couple perfectly and people are still talking about how it was the best wedding they've been to a year and a half later.

Best wedding I've been to was my friends whose parents are loaded. Hear me out. The best part wasn't the filet and sea bass we were eating, top shelf booze we were drinking or how expensive the band was. The best part was because they didnt have to cut corners to fit into a budget everything was SO planned, effortless and accommodating to guests. Seems like a lot of brides think guest comforts are the place to trim a little when expenses creep up... As a bridesmaid I whisked through that evening as a true guest celebrating with my friends, no tasks asked of me. Shuttles, logistics, everything was expertly planned and showed me without a doubt that is one of the most important things to get right for our wedding.

Conversely, the weddings I look back and cringe about are the ones that didn't have shuttles, charged the wedding party for overnight rooms in their venue, unorganized photo schedule s or long breaks between ceremony and reception and dinners that weren't served until 9:30 pm when the reception ends at 11.

All the weddings I've gone to have been really awesome in their own way. I can tell you the worse one, which was one etiquette faux pas after another. There was a 2 hour gap, Honeyfund, Stag and Doe, no cocktail hour, friendors, buffet ran out of food, head table, didn't let the local cab companies know that there was an event so it was difficult to get a taxi to the reception location.

All the other weddings I had been to didn't have gaps, had fully hosted cocktail hours with lots of food and beverages, were easily accessible, and also I received thank-you notes promptly afterwards.

I can't pick one as far as the best. They all had their flaws for sure. I guess my favorite was my BFFs, and she had a dry potluck wedding with no DJ or anything like that because it was at a small church. Looking back, I think she could have gotten away with a cake and punch reception, as the ceremony started at 2:30pm and everyone left by 5 or so. It was a really nice ceremony though, the best I've seen out of the 4 weddings I've gone to. ETA I was also a BM in her wedding, so it was really special to be able to help her and see things coming together for her big day.

I always have fun at weddings even but I think the best one was my cousin's and that was because of the people that were there. FH, my 2 other cousins and I were sat at a table with 4 other people we didn't know while our parents and 2 older cousins were all sat with each other. The people we were sat with didn't know anyone else there and we didn't know anyone besides our parents but we had the best time with our table. My one cousin is a vegetarian and said her food tasted like a dirty gym sock so of course we all had to taste it and she was right but somehow that was the highlight of the night for all of us.

I'd have to say the best wedding I've ever been to was my cousin's in 2013. Not only was the food amazing, dancing EPIC and ceremony tear jerking they also had hired an artist to do character portraits of the guests...and getting one of those done happened to be on my bucket list.

I'm with Swin. Mine too. What a blast.

Don't think I will ever forget dancing with my son and his fil among so many great moments.

Great food, drink and music, what else could you ask for?
