Best/worst: Bridesmaid/groomsman gifts

What have you received in the past that you loved? What did you feel was a waste of money for the couple? What are you planning to give to your attendants?

The gift I use the most, and liked the most, was a seersucker jewelry travel case with my monogram on it! The item I use the least, and don't like much, was a satin robe. The case was really thoughtful, and I liked how it didn't have anything wedding related on it, plus I use it for carrying stuff other than jewelry. The robe was just really cheaply made, and doesn't stay tied, which defeats the purpose of having it lol.

I'm giving my ladies a satin PJ set. The top is long sleeved, button down, and it comes with shorts and a eye mask. I also plan on gifting them a portable wine glass from W&P (porter wine glass). All of them drink wine, so this made the most sense as far as a matching gift that they'll all love & use! I think I'm going to give each an airplane bottle of their fav wine/liquor and chocolate to put in the wine glass!

My least favorite was from my cousin's wedding. She gifted us the necklace an earrings she wanted us to wear for the ceremony. It's these really big pink flowers on a gold chain/backing. I hate pink and don't like massive jewelry or flowers as jewelry, so they've literally been sitting in a drawer in my closet since then. I literally have no plans to ever wear them again but can't bring myself to get rid of them simply because they were from my cousin's wedding. My favorite was the satin oriental-style robe from the wedding of a best friend. It's really well-made and very nice to wear after a shower. Super comfy, too.

I'll be giving my ladies personalized flasks (because groomsmen aren't the only ones who drink, okay). It has their name, their role, the date, and FH/my names on it. They look nice enough that they can be displayed somewhere if they choose not to use them. They'll also each be getting something more personalized that isn't really wedding-related.

Best advice i've seen on this topic is to try and steer clear of matching gifts and to shop for your attendants ike you would if it were their birthday. Something personalized to them and not related to your wedding will get most use.

Yes exactly. That is the best way to shop. I'm curious what people have received that they loved or didn't.

I've never been a bridesmaid, but for my own bridesmaids, I for sure wanted to stay clear of anything wedding related for gifts that say "bridesmaid" of "maid of honor" or anything typical like a robe, jewelry, etc... Cause I know those won't get much use. (Also my girls weren't really into that kind of thing.) After researching online for ideas, I decided to just get my bridesmaids a pretty monogramed mug filled with each girl's favorite candy and teas/coffee and a gift card of their favorite store, or a store I know they will shop at. So yeah basically I shopped for them like it was their birthday and they all loved the gift.

Hmmm I’ve only been a bridesmaid once and I liked what she gave me but I will admit I didn’t use most of the items

One friend gave all her bridesmaids what we were referring to as wine sippy cups (plastic stemless wine glasses with a lid) and I use that all summer because it keeps bugs out of my drink when I sit outside!

My sister gave us bracelets with our first initials on them. They were nice and simple enough that they could be worn regularly, but they were yellow gold and I wear silver almost exclusively, so I never wear it.
For my bridesmaids, I'm getting them all a shawl (October wedding outside, so that might help keep them warmer), an embroidered handkerchief (I have several cryers), and then I'm doing something personal for them that completely unrelated to the wedding.

Anything that says “bridesmaid” or is specifically wedding related is a waste of money. It can only be used for a short period of time, and most of the items are accessories for the photos, not thank you gifts.

So, I've never been a bridesmaid, but DH has been a groomsman, and the groom gave him a sword!

To be fair, the groom is his swordmaster (he had a moment in our skit at our wedding, where he handed DH a sword), and all the groomspeople were armed at this wedding, so it made sense for DH to be given a sword. He'd also just passed out of his apprenticeship with this swordmaster, so it was kind of a double gift?

...The sword is nearly as big as me. It's a nice sword. (No, I don't touch it, though, not my weapon... and I'm not kidding, this thing is huge.)

Oh, and I did wear my dagger to the wedding, as well, since all of us who had blades were requested to wear them.

Do you know how fun it is to wear a cute dress and a blade at the same time??? (Do you know how it kept all the creepy guys away from me when DH had to be with the BP???)

Only wedding I have been in so far the bride did not give gifts to the bridesmaids. My MOH will be my older sister and I am most likely going to give her a nice bottle of gin. Gin and tonics are both of our favorite drinks but we only discovered that after she was living on the other side of the country. I don't know what FH is planning to give his BM yet. (Just a MOH & BM, no other people in our bridal party)
