I’ve seen a bbq catered wedding where they gave everyone those plastic bibs - and as even just a guest I happily wore mine! (And so did many others). Depends on the formality of the event, but that could be a way to make it less awkward.
Regardless, it’s better to look goofy for a few minutes than be sauced all night!
