Biggest Gift Goofs?

It’s the holidays, yay! I’ve seen lots of great threads about fun gift ideas and seen some really sweet ones, so I’m curious about the other end of the spectrum? Has your partner ever given you a gift that just wasn’t quite a win?

Our first Christmas together, my FH got me some really nice jewelry, including a ring. Unfortunately he purchased it online, and he grabbed one of my rings from my jewelry box to use the online ring sizer but didn’t see the instructions to make sure the sizing was to scale on the screen. I think it was a size 11 or 12, which let’s just say is not my size haha. Luckily we were able to exchange it, and it was a good lesson for him since he made sure to have my correct ring size for the real deal!

Oh my gosh, mine did the same thing! He sneakily looked in my jewelry box at a (costume jewelry) ring I wore all the time to figure out my size. Unfortunately, a size 6 looks like a size 9 when it’s upside down 😂

LOL love this topic & the effort that these loving partners put forth, so well-intentioned haha. Not holiday related but some years ago I told FH that I wanted to do a picnic date one day. During my birthday (late August, when NYC heat is sweltering and **extremely** humid), he books a dinner surprise… we take a subway and then walk 10 mins to this cute-looking restaurant (my hair is already frizzing out and my face is sweating at this point, but I’m looking forward to being seated in air conditioning). Btw I’m wearing a cute skirt, top, and heels. Instead of being seated by the host we stand around waiting and he won’t tell me why, about 5 mins later he gets a picnic to-go bag & we walk over to Central Park. I tried to stay calm but told him there was no way we were doing this outside & definitely not in this outfit I wore haha. We ended up going back home & did the picnic indoors, which was divine timing because it started pouring rain right after we got inside. LOL. Still makes me smile.

My more... ahem... "memorable" gift was from my MIL. It was the first Christmas after we got engaged, the first Christmas I wasn't with my family in my hometown, and the first Christmas since COVID started. She got me a mug that said "I want you to know somebody cares. Not me, but somebody." Nothing says "welcome to the family" like being told someone doesn't care about you Smiley amazing

My fiancé loves to buy me clothes, that I hate. Knit sweaters are his favorite. I always suck it up and wear them at least once, but lord I would think after all these years he would realize! haha I love a few of them, I cant deny. But man, I hate when anyone buys me clothes.
