Bijou bridal credit card required for an appt?

Lola T, on October 20, 2014 at 7:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

So I wanted to go dress shopping somewhere closer to me. I made my first appt and found 2 dresses that I really liked. I called today to make another appt to try on the dresses for my future mother in law. When I called, they said they required a credit card for an appt, but only charge it if you don't show. It seems strange to me to give that info, and I questioned it. The girls said its required for a Saturday and busy season. I went Friday at 4:30 and it wasn't required, why 3 days later do they need it for another week night appt, especially since I'm coming back again. I lost my card on Sunday, so I didn't give it. But, Is this normal for most dress salons? Has anyone had any experience with this salon? Good and bad feedback?

I didn't have to for any of my appointments but I have read about a $50.00 fee if you didn't show up.

Wow that's the most ridiculous thing I have heard today. They charge for a missed appointment? As if they are a doctor? Sorry but your bridal consultants aren't doctors. Their time is really not that valuable.

I haven't seen this at any of the 6 shops that I went to. I think I would be inclined to look elsewhere. You shouldn't have to pay just to look at dresses that you might purchase.

Are they really high end dresses? Maybe they don't want people wasting time to try on expensive dresses just for fun? Either way, it would leave a sour taste in my mouth.

When I was shopping for dresses I ran into this at a few different bridal boutiques. They required a credit card to hold the appointment and there was a fee for a no show. I don't think it is that crazy, especially at a busy shop. They want to make sure you actually show, or want to give your appointment to another bride if you can't make it. I'm also finding the same thing as I'm trying to making apointments for bridesmaid dresses now.

They told me that they only charge it if you don't show. They had some nice dresses, but I didn't think they were that high end. I totally have a bad taste now about that salon. Unfortunately I found one dress that I really liked and wanted to show my FMIL. I almost don't want to go back now.

I have another appt on Saturday at Alluring Bridal in Nanuet. I think I'm def looking forward more to that appt. And they didn't ask for a credit card!!

Has anyone gone there for their dress? Any feedback on Alluring Bridal?

I called around a few bridal boutique and there was only one that required a CC number for the same reason you explained. It was a high end bridal boutique and learned that all the dresses start at **** (very few 2500), and you get served your choice of beverage and all the other perks. Well, I didn't give them my CC number. I thought it would be fun to go in and pretend that I could afford to look at gowns at that price point, but honestly I don't have time. I need to go to a boutique where they have gowns starting at wayyyyy lower than that, I would have to REALLY like a dress to pay that much. I'm looking at 1500 budget wise.

Answer to your question is yes this is normal for the higher end places, or even the places that just get really busy.

Also, when I was MOH of a wedding last year I went to the cake tasting with the bride and they charged a $25 fee if she missed her appt. It was a place that was REALLY good and was included in her package for her venue! Just thought I might add that. I think some places might charge a fee for missed appts.

Ugh I wish more places did. I am a last minute girl and would always call day of to see if they had cancelations, every time they'd say no, but call me later in the day 10 minutes after someone's start time saying they didn't show. As we can see etiquette is a dying from these days, so I guess people figure why cancel an appointment if you have no skin in the game?

A CC was required for my appt at one salon. They do it for Saturday and Sunday appts because that is when they are the busiest. They charge you a fee if you no show to your appt.
