Bilingual Catholic Wedding (spanish and english)

Nathalie, on January 8, 2020 at 3:33 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 2 3

I will be getting married soon and I'm looking at the insight of a bilingual catholic wedding. I was also thinking of adding Latin in some parts of my ceremony. like for the small prayers in Latin, one reading in English and the other in Spanish and vice-versa in the songs/ hymnal. it would be nice that Hymnal go along with the readings, but whichever is best, i go for it.

It would be nice to know or receive any suggestions on reads and songs. I would love to receive some help and I would appreciate your help.

I’m doing the same thing for our ceremony! I think this is a great way to incorporate both cultures at the ceremony. So we’ll have the first reading in English, the second in Spanish, and the gospel in English. We’ll have the communion song in Spanish, and recessional in Spanish, and maybe another song with some Spanish verses too. In terms of specific readings, talk to your parish priest. They have a list of readings that are traditionally read for weddings. And in terms of songs, see if you can talk to your parish choir, this is what we’re doing. Good luck!

We are doing this too...well if we can find someone to do the Spanish readings lol. You should ask your parish. I was looking online. i found a lot of suggestion readings on catholic sites. But when i asked the parish coordinator. She told me we could do those readings but they have to be in this book. She handed me a book they give to all the couples before the wedding. The good thing the first reading was there but the psalms and gospel are not. So just go and talk to them. In the bulletin it request to contact her a month before the wedding but there's no harm is asking now. Just trying to save you some time. I read all these different readings for nothing lol.

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Nathalie Smiley smile This is a nice way of incorporating both languages and cultures.

I would definitely recommend you speak with the priest performing your ceremony. They should have a list of suggested reading you can pick from, as the PPs mentioned.
