Bilingual French / English Wedding Officiant

Erin, on September 30, 2018 at 2:01 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5

So my husband's family is coming to our wedding in Lansing, Michigan, and they are from Quebec City, so they speak French. We are desperate to find someone to do our ceremony who can speak both languages, so that we can include everyone! We are already married legally, so this is just a part of a celebration we are putting together that we never got to have. This means we don't even need any of the legal stuff. Just someone who can speak French and English to do a short ceremony!

We found one woman in Grand Rapids who is from Montreal and speaks both languages. I was over the moon, but then found out she was busy the day of our wedding (May 18, 2019). What are the odds?!!

We are willing to pay for travel fees, etc. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Hey there Erin!! Welcome to WeddingWire!!!

Have you had the opportunity to look through the WeddingWire vendor directory? It's got thousands of vendors from all over the country with reviews from newlyweds who used them. Smiley smile I made a search of French-speaking officiants near Lansing and got a couple of hits. I would continue my search there and see what comes of it. Smiley smile

    Best of luck!!

I went to a wedding recently that was conduced by an English speaking minister, but the bride (whose family speaks french) had a family friend who beautifully stood in an area where readings were being done and repeated some of the key parts of the ceremony in french. It was beautiful and felt really special. She knew in advance what she'd need to say, so she didn't have to translate word-for-word.

    Hi Maggie,

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually have! The one woman, who would have been perfect, was already booked that day (bummer) and the other one didn't actually speak French! I'll keep searching!

Thanks for the suggestion. I think we will end up having to use a translator or something, but I'm just not sure yet. I haven't been able to find much in terms of options....
