Bird cage veil.. Help!

*~WiiFeY~*, on February 8, 2011 at 9:16 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

FS cousin, who makes baby headbands and hair clips and all kinds of accessories, just sent me an email that said she's starting to make bird cage veils and was wondering if I'd like her to make me one for the wedding, for free. I've seen pictures of the ones she's done, and she does a good job.. But to me they are more old hollywood, or vintage, and I'm doing neither for my wedding.

I'm doing more of a shabby chic kind of thing.. My colors are coral, light pink, and tan.. And I'm using lots of raffia and mason jars. What do you think? Do you think I could still do the birdcage veil? Or would it go weird with my theme.. I'm attaching some pics of my dress, and different decor ideas to see if you think the bird cage veil would look weird with it all.

Maybe she can just make you a couple of pretty flowers to go in your hair like in the picture without the veil?

IMO I don't care for the bird cage veil. They are pretty, and I'm sure it would look good with your dress, but like you said about your theme, it's not exactly "the look" you're going for. Either way you will look stunning : )

I think the bird cage veil would look fine with your dress and theme/decorations. I think they are classic, and if done right they can be very elegant. Maybe try one one that she has already made with your dress to see if it is something you really want. It could potentially save you quite a bit of money -- but just make sure it is something you really want!!! She could always make you some hair flowers like Future Mrs. Cooper said that you could wear during the reception?

I think it fits. Shabby chic is all about country elegance. I think a birdcage veil fits perfectly. You can make it cute and quirky by adding a light pink flower rather than white or ivory

I think you can make it work if it's what you want. While I think they are adorable IMO birdcage veils will go out of style again in the near future so I'd personally stay away for that reason alone. But again, it's all about what you want! You can totally make it work with your theme.

BTW the first picture is a florist from Maui!!!! I was going to go with her because of that picture but then decided to go with a friend's recommendation instead. But I love it!

If you go on stylemepretty.com at all, a lot of the weddings they feature have similar ideas to yours and a lot of those brides wear birdcage veils. I happen to be wearing one also, and I'm not having an old hollywood look at all. Our wedding is actually more of a modern vineyard theme.

What if you made a bigger veil out of the birdcage material? thats how mine is. I liked the vintage look of the russian netting but also liked having a full veil.

Lynley- I like the longer idea. I was also thinking of not doing netting.. Something like this, like a mix between a regular veil and a birdcage.

I think the one you posted looks great, it will totally match your dress and i have seen a lot of country weddings where the bride is wearing a bird cage veil. But if you are looking more for the traditional veil then just say no thank you and that's not what you're going for. but for the record. i think the ones you posted work VERY well with the rest of the pictures you have posted so far!!!

I love bird cage veils! I almost got one but realized it wasn't that great with m y dress! Your dress is beautiful and I think the simplicity of it would work perfectly with a cage! I actually referred my friend to etsy to get hers made! This lady made it for her and it was perfect!

I think the veil matches the style of the wedding stuff, but not the dress. The dress seems very traditional, not 50s or vintage. The idea of just flowers is a good one. Which veil type do you like better? Don't get one just because she's making it!
