Birth Control - Anyone have any stories to share about VCF?

Neema , on May 30, 2014 at 2:34 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 8

Hi Ladies,

I've been on the pill for over 23 years.. YES, I KNOW all of the health risks and side effects but I've never had a single pregnancy, which is the point. I've wanted to get off of the pill for years but have not wanted to deal with an obviously important decision if I was to unexpectedly become pregnant. Now that we are getting married, we both want for me to be off of the pill, however I don't want to be pregnant until after we are married. I have heard about VCF - Vaginal Contraceptive Films (http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/vcf-dissolving-vaginal-contraceptive-films/ID=prod3417675-product#BVRRWidget) that are dissovlable and seem like a great option, but in reading some of the reviews, some women ended up pregnant. I guess the option is to use VCF and some other form of contraception like a condom but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience using VCF. Thanks in advance!

My OBGYN advised that VCF should never, ever be the primary means of contraception.

I went off the pill ~9 months before the wedding. We used multiple barrier methods but mainly condoms (not a fav but you do what you have to.)

We also charted (see fertilityfriend.com for chart help). Mainly started doing this on the recommendation of my doctor as we wanted to start a family soon after the wedding. Due to my "advanced maternal age" (makes it sound like my ovaries are shriveled ol' crones) the charting was a way to start figuring out what help we might need (if any) to get pregnant. Thru charting, we knew when we could take more risk and when we could not. Smiley smile

I use them. I really like them except it takes about 15 minutes for them to melt/work. If you are all caught up in the moment, that's a long 15 minutes!

I LOVE THEM! I used them forever until my guy got snipped. Seriously... adore them. The only time they did not work is when I forgot to use one. haha We now have a 2 year old. haha

but yeah, the best birth control I have ever used.

My mom used them and got pregnant with my brother. I think they are best with another form and meant to be used with another form. I don't think I would use them alone. I am the girl that is on the pill but still uses another form of BC just to be safe.

I stopped taking the pill 6 months ago because of side effects, yeast and bladder infections. I had been using the pill for 5 years. We don't want children right now and I was afraid of getting pregnant before the wedding so we use a combination of monthly tracking to see when I ovulate and withdrawal. It has worked so far. I used the VCF a few times but only along with condoms.

Thanks girls. It looks like it will be the combo platter of VCF & Condoms! I can't wait to get off of the pill. Did any of you have any irritations or allergic reactions? I also read a few reviews from people with skin sensitivities that stated they had some issues.

I used them as a temporary method. I always combined tho... either with barrier or withdrawl. I've been on the pill for almost 10 years and I had had enough also. Went for the mirena... failed insertion. I go Monday for the Implanon and I can't wait!!
