I am currently on the Nexplanon implant and am due to have it out in October. Our wedding is in June and we want to start trying for children in December. For that reason I don't necessarily want to get another implant that last for three years but I would like some form of protection until we are ready for kids. (Side note: I am AWFUL at taking the pill.. been their done that and hate it Smiley xd )

I’m currently on the Depo shot and it has been amazing! I’ve not had any negative side effects and no period for several years with it! Downside, some women it makes them gain weight, have irregular or random periods and it can take up to a year or more to have children after you stop. However, I love it and since it’s only every 3 months it’s easy to remember!

For some people, birth control is a crap shoot. Personally, I don't feel like it's worth trying a form of birth control that could completely change your life for such a short amount of time. I offered a different solution than what women typically view as birth control. Thanks for your input.

Nuvaring all the way!! Put it in for 3 weeks, take it out for 1 and have you period. I personally loved it. Don’t have to remember to take a pill but easily feel in control.

Avoid the shot (just from personal experience), I had the worst time with it and horrible after effects. I'm just on the pill, we want to start trying June 2020 so I'll probably go off birth control in May 2020 or so but my doctor said it could be up to 3 months for all the BC to get out of my system.

So I was on the Depo Provera Shot that I would have to get every three months. Originally I was on it for 5 years and never gained weight. I just had food cravings lol Then when my doctor said I could go back on it because I was off of it for two years with the pill but I gained SO much weight on this last round that I stopped it entirely because I gained 60 pounds in a matter of three months. The doctors told me that because I was on it less than a year it would take up to a year to become "normal" again and try to have babies.

Last time I saw my doctor she told me they like to see patients off of BC for 3 months before trying to conceive. So if you HAVE to get it out in October, maybe it might be better to go without BC rather than trying a different kind for just 2 months. But I have no idea, clearly not a doctor here.

I just want to put my word in here - I have not used birth control for all 4 1/2 years with my SO and have not had one pregnancy scare ---- we practice NFP (natural family planning) the Creighton method to be exact. It is NOT (yet) taught in medical school - some physicians teach it, other's have never heard of it - it's dependent on whether or not they've researched it and feel comfortable teaching it. There are many different methods of NFP, some use body temp, others mucus consistency to track fertility. Contrary to the outdated posters at the OBGYN it is 96-99.8% effective in avoiding pregnancy and can also be used to GET pregnant. (mind you, when they did the study to collect the data on those posters, they grouped women who use no contraception into one category, so women who use the pull out method, women who use NFP, women who don't use anything were all grouped into one). It works for women with "irregular" cycles. My aunt practices it, she had three planned pregnancies and went 14 years without getting pregnant using NFP.

I'm on NuvaRing and I love it! I really wasn't sure about it since I don't know anyone else that uses it. All my friends were always saying take the pill, take the pill. But I ALWAYS forgot it. I even set an alarm but I'd turn it off and say I'll take it in a minute. Never did. My doc recommended the ring about a year ago and I've had no issues! Sometimes using a finger to get it in position was weird in the beginning, so someone said to use a tampon applicator to get it in the right place. Bingo! No more issues. Just info in case you decide to give it a shot. I did notice it for the first couple months, but I just didn't have it inserted in a good position. It's really a good option.
