Birth control - weight gain?

Brenda, on November 14, 2019 at 12:19 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 10

This may be TMI but I just want opinions! I recently started the Nuvaring and wanted to know if anyone experienced an increase in their appetite when starting it? I feel hungry all the time. And I have a wedding dress to fit into in a month! I for sure still fit in it, but find myself struggling to not eat. Which is so not like me!

I think all birth control comes with the possible side effect of weight gain not always because of what you are eating but because of the change in hormones.

Pretty much all the studies that have been done around this show that birth control does not cause weight gain. The increase in hunger might just be your body adjusting to something new. If you’re concerned about it I would talk to your doctor and see if there are any alternatives. Everyone’s body is different.

    I have a Skyla
I've struggled with my weight all my life (before and after birth control) so I really can't blame it on birth control!
I've def heard a lot of anecdotes about the pill causing weight gain. Haven't heard anything about the NuvaRingWhen I first got my IUD, my gyno told me the hormone dosage is so low and localized that it won't affect the rest of my body. I managed to lose 30 lb while on a medically supervised fast (and while having a Skyla) Just a thought, if the NuvaRing isn't working for you, look into Skyla or Mirena. And get the numbing shot!

I don’t have NuvaRinga—I have Skyla. I used to experience weight gain and lots of hormonal problems while on the pill. That all stopped when I got my IUD.
If you’re having issues, I personally recommend Skyla. This is my 2nd one, they last 3 years, and are smaller than others like Mirena.
