Birth Control

Carrina , on March 29, 2018 at 6:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24
Hey loves! So I’ve been on the Loryna birth control pill for about 6 months and I hate it so much it’s been making me crazy and extremely hormonal. So, I’m switching to the Kyleena IUD next week. My doctor said good things about it so I think it’ll be a better option. I’m a little nervous about it because I’m 100 days out from the wedding but I’m hoping for the best. Anyone on the Kyleena IUD?

100 days is plenty for your body to get used to it. I personally like the pills better but not everyone is the same.

Yup! I had Mirena before and it was fine. I chose Kyleena this time and insertion was a breeze compared to Mirena.

Also ask if your NP/dr has inserted them before. I had an NP insert my Mirena cockeyed because it was her first time 🙄

I have the Kyleena! I love it! Although my periods are annoyingly light (as in, sometimes I don't know if it's done) and I have cramps sometimes now (I never used to get them). My doctor said since my periods are so light, they will probably stop eventually. I got my Kyleena in December.

I don’t have that one but I do have the Mirena and I love it! I’ve had it in for almost 4 years now and really no side effects. A bit of cramping with insertion but the best part is a few months later it stopped my periods and I haven’t had one since then Smiley smile good luck!

I haven’t had Kyleena but I have a few friends who got and IUD and they said it was super painful. I ended up going with Nexplanon - the arm implant and have had it 4 years now (gets replaced every 3 years) - I love it. It’s an easy procedure and the first 2 years I didn’t get my monthly AT ALL! Even replacing it was a breeze - no pain other than the numbing needles. The horomones might not be right for you but just an option I wanted to throw out there if you hadn’t heard of it.

I don’t have kyleena, and although I love my mirena (bc I’m terrible at taking pills)I don’t get a period anymore but I get cramps like no other. I never had cramps when I didn’t have the mirena but now I get them all the time even not during my “time” and it’s terrible. They started the day it was inserted and I get them all the time now. After about a year my period let up though so that was cool!

Did any of you find that you experienced weight gain with Kyleena?? I hear mixed reviews.

Never had Kyleena but I did have Mirena which is a quite similar. Both loved and hated it. I had no pain with insertion and never had a period so those things were so awesome. But the hormones in it made my hair and skin insanely oily and made me break out. And I’m talking so oily it needed washing every day. So that outweighed the convenience, unfortunately. If it weren’t for that side effect I’d have kept it forever! (Well replacing every 5 years of course).

It's so crazy how it is different for everyone! I had the Nexplanon for 1 year and I was on my period for probably 2 to 3 weeks in a month!

So I had a freaky thing happen with me. I tried the Mirena and my body rejected it. It was so painful and I ended up getting it out that same day. My ob said I was the first one that ever happened to. Lucky me! But everyone I know that has it loves it!!

I got my Kyleena in November! Seriously, best decision I've made regarding BC. I LOVE not having to take a pill every day. And it has made my periods sooo much lighter. I used to have a full blown heavy 7 day period. Now it is max 3 days. The cramping for the first 3 months sucked but she said it was normal because I've never had kids. So far, no bad side effects! (Also, I've heard horror stories about the arm implants and my roommates swapped theirs for IUDs and said it is much better). Hope this helps!

This happened to me as well. Ended up in the ER a week later and had to get it removed!

It is crazy! I felt it was worth the risk for me since the removal was much less invasive than an IUD.

It is crazy how different birth control affect everyone so differently! Birth control is very trial and error.
