Black Rehearsal Dress

Masel, on November 4, 2020 at 6:17 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 19
A little unconventional, but black is my favorite color. I wear it almost every day. I just got a gorgeous black dress with black lace sleeves on Amazon & it actually fits, which never happens because I’m petite. I’m considering wearing it for engagement photos and the rehearsal. Thoughts on black rehearsal dresses? I feel like there really are no rules this year but wanted to check out some opinions. Also. Shoe color suggestions?

Yes ma’am, I am wearing a black dress for my rehearsal & dinner as well. I have actually only been to 1 rehearsal/dinner where the bride wore white.

It’s fine! At my rehearsal dinner I wore purple. I don’t think all brides wear white to rehearsal dinners

Wear whatever you love. There is no rule anywhere that rehearsal attire has to be a white dress. Considering how many brides wear tshirts and jeans.

The idea of brides wearing white to pre-wedding events is actually relatively new, and also not a requirement, but more of a trend. Wear whatever you would like!

There have never been any rules about rehearsal clothing colors, no matter what the year.

It seems that wearing white to all wedding-related events became popular with the creation of social media! I wore a black jumpsuit to my shower and am wearing black to our rehearsal dinner. Wear something you absolutely love instead of something that’s just okay but is white!

Black is totally fine. Wearing white to every event gets a little played out and becomes too expected.

I think it is totally fine. There aren't really rules on what color you should wear for your rehearsal. As for shoes, it depends on if you want a neutral color like silver or if you want something that pops like red.

I agree, the only reason I’m wearing white to my pre wedding events is bc I never wear white AND my wedding dress isn’t white lol

What the rehearsal outfit is supposed to be white! In most movies they just wear whatever they normally wear .

I wore a floral dress that had blues, greens, and purples on it. There's absolutely no need to wear white to any of your wedding events (including the wedding if you don't want to).

Except for people talking on WW or other boards, I have never seen or heard of a bride wearing white to her shower, engagement party, or the rehearsal dinner. Wear any color and style you want, the right formality for the venue. For a dressy evening event, a little back cocktail dress is always right.

Black would work fine, I'd just consider what your partner is wearing. In photos black has the tendency to kind of disappear, so if your partner doesn't wear a similarly dark color and you happen to be petite and tiny anyway, it might not be the best choice for photos specifically. A professional photographer can give you advice for your engagement shoot (and can make black work beautifully) and for other events if the photos aren't super important it shouldn't matter. Just if you are going to have a lot of friends/family taking a lot of amateur photos, the black and details of your dress may not show up as well.

Unlike everyone else here, I don't think brides wearing white to other wedding related events is anything new, but its certainly not required. I think the reason brides opt for white for showers, bachelorettes, brunches, and engagement parties is because its an excuse to wear white. Since white is inappropriate to wear white to someone else's wedding and the average person probably doesn't actually get dressed up all that often on a regular basis, wearing white to your pre-wedding events is an excuse to wear cute white outfits you'd never have an occasion to wear otherwise. I pretty much get dressed up for weddings and the very occasional date night or work event, because we don't really have galas or balls or fancy things we can go to, so was excited to get at least one extra white dress to wear for a wedding function.

Definitely nothing wrong with a black dress - the one you described sounds so pretty! As for shoes, for the rehearsal I would wear the shoes you're going to wear on your wedding day so you get a feel for how the day will go (especially if any elements of the wedding are outside - you want to know how they are before you walk down the aisle!). If you already have your wedding day shoes, you could also wear them for the engagement photos; if not, a shoe with a pop of color would look nice for the engagement photos.
