Black suit with light brown shoes

I personally LOVE this look! Our wedding is in November and not very formal. I think the brown look tones it down and makes it more stylish. There are a lot of people that have done it I've seen on Pinterest and google. The bridesmaids are mismatched creams/blush tones and my dress is white lace...

I personally LOVE this look! Our wedding is in November and not very formal. I think the brown look tones it down and makes it more stylish. There are a lot of people that have done it I've seen on Pinterest and google. The bridesmaids are mismatched creams/blush tones and my dress is white lace with a champagne underlay. I want to know if anyone else has done the black suit with the brown(cognac) shoes?

I understand there are people won't agree with this and that is not what I'm asking. Just looking for those who have done this. Thanks!!

I love the fashion police on here, lol! Black and Brown look great together. There hasn't been that kind of rule for thirty years or so.

I mean....i don't think anyone's the fashion police. Clearly it's been done before, it's not that it looks bad necessarily, just i would say it's non-traditional. That being said, my FH is also wearing a non-traditional tux, one that the internet heavily poo-pooed. You gotta just do what you want.

We did mixed shades of grey with pink and blush accents for our WP, but H was in a blue suit. most of the guys wore brown shoes. here's our giant WP. it can be done! Smiley smile

ETA we were definitely not going for a traditional feel/style and were comfortable with it--for sure that's not for everyone.

We are having our groomsman wear brown shoes with their grey tuxes (suits? Not sure of the difference if I'm being honest). I wasn't a fan at first, but FH loved it so we went with it. The look is definitely growing on me. FH will be in black with black shoes, though.

I think navy would look better but I like the black with cognac shoes as well.

DH and GM wore a lighter grey/blue with cognac shoes.

To me there isn't that much difference in a suit and tux. I say if you like it and the guys like it then who cares? I think it looks nice

    PSA for those saying they don't know/ don't think there's a difference:

Literally every piece of the ensemble is different for a suit vs a tuxedo.

@Carousel i agree that suit and tux are different, but the way men's fashion is nowadays, a lot of those rules are bent or broken, and not just by ignorant people, but by fashion brands.

Nice, but be sure that the soles/heels of the shoe are black. All brown will make it look too casual and be sure a brighter shade of brown is worn. You don't want a darker brown, but more like a luggage brown. Looks sharp.

Do the people wearing this have an opinion? I like t but I know FH would hate it. He has a very old school perspective on black shoes with black formal wear. I'd check with the wearers on this one.

I think that black shoes would look better than brown with the suit in the photo that you posted.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the suit in the photo you posted is a very dark gray. Not black. In general, I think that black suits have a tendency to look a little funereal for a wedding. Dark gray is nice though and since your wedding isn't that formal it would probably be a better choice than black. I love a Navy suit with brown shoes + brown belt. Its classic!

I don't think brown shoes go with the black suit at all, IMO. If you like brown shoes go with a navy suit. That's what my FH and his brother are doing and they look very sharp and handsome!
